12 days and nobody has any ideas to get something done?

3/13/08 josh dad Message #3207
Nobody has any ideas to get a cold case involved?

2/23/08 DoubleDash Message #3206
It seems like very few people are willing to investigate because of who is involved. I keep praying that some stand up people will come forward and offer help/information. Whoever was involved in Josh's abduction must know we will never stop the search -- we will get to the bottom of it ...

2/23/08 joshs dad Message #3205
Stearns county does not want outside help. It is because of who is involved that nobody seems willing to really help. Sad but true, myself and a few will not give up the battle,if only more people knew what was really going on.

2/22/08 DoubleDash Message #3204
"Our Mission & Credo ... The Vidocq Society is dedicated to dealing with long-unsolved murders and other major cases. The Vidocq credo is Veritas Veritatum - The Truth of Truths. The Vidocq Society's 82 members (one for every year of Inspector Vidocq's life) come from 17 states and 11 other countries.Members bring a broad array of forensic and other experience. The Society chooses its cases carefully, working closely with local investigators and prosecutors to help solve a death or homicide and bring perpetrators to justice. All work is done at no cost to victim’s families or law enforcement, pro bono as part of the Society's commitment to public service. ... ----------------- ... They want to perform a great public service, right? Then why not help a young man who had the world at his fingertips -- who vanished on his college campus -- who seems to have been forgotten by his community -- and whose case didn't seem to warrant the best and most thorough investigative help possible -- how could any agency refuse to help in this situation? Could they not make an exception? Why can't they?? Joshua deserves it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... "

2/22/08 DoubleDash Message #3203
I hear you Mr. Guimond -- I was just thinking that maybe Vicoq would make an exception in this case, and investigate it because it has gone "cold," and no other organization seems to be actively pursuing it. If Vidoq did uncover a human trafficking ring, it would be a huge accomplishment, and even more so, be invaluable for victims and their families. If Vidoq felt they could not take this case, maybe they could recommend an agency that would. There has to be some organization willing to help, we can't give up.

2/22/08 joshs dad Message #3202
I thought the vidocq society only worked on homocides. All the info I have tells me Josh was abducted, nobody has anything to say different.

2/17/08 DoubleDash Message #3201
I would give anything for the Vidoq society to take on Josh's case ... they would be objective and are not connected with any govt agency. They are independent investigators. It is a tragedy the way this case was handled.

2/17/08 Aubs Message #3200
The Vidocq Society? They solved the O'Connell Funeral Home double murder in Hudson, Wis. (Fr. Ryan Erickson) and the Reker murders, I believe.

2/17/08 joshs dad Message #3199
Beleive me BMW when I say the last thing I want is another government agency supposidly looking into this case.I said I want an independant group to come and look into the case, and without the sheriff inviting this other group into the investigation just how much cooperation do you think they will get?

2/14/08 DoubleDash Message #3198
Okay, BMW, I hear you. It's good to know, then, that Josh's case is probably on the radar of another investigative agency. I figured at least one cold case unit would be reviewing it. The good news, too, is that they would have known exactly where to start their investigation -- in the place where Josh went missing. Thanks for your insights, BMW. Sometimes it can take a long time for justice to be served -- but it will be -- sooner or later, it will be

2/14/08 BMW Message #3197
Of course I am not implying that no crime has been committed. I have been a firm believer since day one that Josh's disappearance is the result of foul play. I also agree that it is not likely that a cold case unit related to Stearn's County is involved. Frankly, I don't believe such an organization would exist within such a county. Rather, I am suggesting that there are other cold case units within the state a federal systems which operate independently of local law enforcement. Furthermore, to the best of my knowledge, these organizations are not required to make their involvement known to anyone unless they see it as a benefit to the case. This can be unfortunate and nerve-wracking for the families, but investigators sometimes find it beneficial to an investigation to have certain aspects of an investigation kept secret from the public.

2/13/08 DoubleDash Message #3196
BMW, if the MBI or another agency involved itself with Josh's case, wouldn't they be required to notify the Guimonds? Honestly, I am amazed Stearns never asked for help from the FBI -- and I don't want to hear the excuse that "there's no evidence a crime has been committed." Hey, there's no evidence a crime has not been committed!! Josh is still missing after five years and I've got some news for the perpetrator and Stearns County -- we're not going to let this go!!!!

2/13/08 joshs dad Message #3195
I am sure nobody not connected with stearns county has looked into this case. It seems they do not want outside help, why else would they deny us getting a cold case unit to come in and investigate, they say they have no evidence of anything, but they also say they can not let anyone look at nothing because something might be comprimised.

2/12/08 BMW Message #3194
Does anyone have concrete evidence that Josh's disappearance has not been looked at by anyone but Stearn's County?

2/10/08 DoubleDash Message #3193
Yes, Mr. Guimond -- yes, you are exactly right. The way this entire thing has been handled is a miscarriage of justice. I believe your family has been wronged -- and it is unacceptable. People out there reading this -- it's time to become stand up people, and speak out. Someday it might be you hoping and praying others might care enough to help you. A young man is missing -- by rights he should have completed graduate school and now be making a difference in this world as he was meant to do -- let us find the truth, let us commit to finding justice where there has been none

2/10/08 Joshs dad Message #3192
I am wondering how st. johns is not partly negligent, and here is why. Josh was enrolled in their college,Lisa and I were under the impression it was a safe environment. Josh was not totally on his own,he was still a dependant on his mothers tax form,I believe this is right. Also I dont know how you can have a safe environment and house a dozen or so admitted pedifials 3 hundred yards or so from the prep school.I want to know how St. Johns has no responsibility at all for the dissapearance of my son,Joshua? Also it is interesting to note that the school isnt pushing for awnsers either. It seems to me if that is such a tight community they would want to find out what happened also.

2/7/08 joshs dad Message #3191
Aubs and BMW,why would the sheriff not want a cold case unit from outside the area come in and try and get the anwsers we need to solve this?

2/4/08 DoubleDash Message #3190
Even though Josh was around 20 when he went missing, because he was in college I believe he would be considered a "dependent." In other words, he was not completely out on his own; he was a college student and by rights I feel his safety and well being is a responsibility of St. John's University. After all, he went missing on that campus -- and -- well -- it's a campus that houses known sex offenders. Can the university prove the whereabouts of each and every one of these individuals during the late night hours of Nov. 9 and early morning hours of November 10, 2002? I want to know, was this part of the investigation conducted immediately and thoroughly? If not, I would consider that an egregious act of negligence on the part of the investigating authorities. Would Bill O'Reilly agree with me? I'll have to ask him, I know he has strong opinions on the subject. When young women go missing, one of the first things investigators do is check EVERY sex offender within a certain radius. Am I not correct?

2/3/08 DoubleDash Message #3187
"I wonder if Minnesota has something like this: ... ''Partnering with the Molly Bish Foundation, a number of licensed private investigators, all members from the Licensed Private Detective Association of Massachusetts, Inc. have agreed to conduct Pro Bono investigations on old missing children cases through out the state. ... Individual PI’s and their companies will reexamine cold cases in their area to see if they can develop new leads and new information. They will work closely and in cooperation with the investigating police department. ... In one example and using a team approach, members from the South Shore area including investigators Phil White from Brockton, Charlie Castro from Whitman, Joe White from Easton and Michelle Littlefield from Taunton have agreed to collectively reinvestigate the 1989 Jennifer Fay missing person case. ... In conjunction with John and Magi Bish from the Molly Bish Foundation, investigators will receive advanced missing person training now being developed by LPDAM president Tom Shamshak.'' ... "

2/3/08 DoubleDash Message #3186
I still think an anonymous P.O. Box might be a wise idea -- in case there is someone out there who has suspicions but is afraid of being traced. There might be someone who works with the perpetrator who would like to say something but fears reprisal. I know this has been brought up here before. Again, an ad could be placed in the local papers -- including the St. John's Univ. campus papers -- you never know ...

2/3/08 DoubleDash Message #3185
Just a thought -- what if an ad was placed asking for help from retired law enforcement who would be willing to work on Josh's case voluntarily. I was just reading about another cold case and this is an approach that was taken. We need people with investigative skills who can operate independently and think outside of the box.

2/2/08 joshs dad Message #3184
we need someone not connected with anyone involved already.I want an independent party to come in and start from scratch, but as I said the sheriff will have nothing to do with anybody else looking at anything, why not? If he really wants to solve this case it seems strange you would not want the help of experts,it is obvious they did one thing wrong after another right from the start. Also lets not foget the other 2 cases they have not solved, wetterling and rekers.

2/1/08 Nick Message #3183
Has anyone spoken with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension's Cold Case unit? I believe they have one, and I've been told that the BCA has a database of dental records and DNA which they compare to unidentified bodies that are found. I know that they have Josh's information, but obviously that doesn't mean they have an active investigation going, which I know we'd all like to see.

2/1/08 joshs dad Message #3182
anybody know of a good cold case unit we can talk to about this case? with it being over 5 years it is obvious stearns county is not going to do anything, they say they have no evidence, but they do not want anybody else to look into the case. what possible reason would they not want outside help?

yhe tunnels where searched by stearns county sherriffs dept., but that is like having the fox watch the hen house. we need to put enough pressure on the sherriffs dept. that we can get a cold case unit to invetigate, someone with absolutly no ties to st. johns, that is where it started that is where the truth starts.

" ... ''FYI'' ... From http://www.behindthepinecurtain.com/ (Articles & Documents) - December 2007 ''Update - Regarding Bruce Wollmering. We have received information regarding ... harassment claims against Wollmering and his dismissal from the University. The Abbey and University allegedly covered up the harassment claims, failed ... to report the claims to the proper authorities and allowed Wollmering to stay on as an instructor, then resign at the end of the (spring 2003) semester. Wollmering has also allegedly admitted to relationships with at least three university students.''"

1/19/08 DoubleDash Message #3174
Darn it all, those tunnels should have been searched the moment it was discovered Josh was missing. I cannot believe this, I don't even have the words to describe my disgust. Back to the night Josh went missing -- I think he was lured somewhere by someone on that campus he knew. The perpetrator meticulously planned his crime -- and I've no doubt he has committed other crimes of this nature in the past. It is difficult but not impossible to get to the bottom of this. Please encourage anyone you know who went to school with Josh to come forward with any info they may have. Five years have come and gone -- how many more years have to pass before we get justice for Josh? Someone out there please do the right thing.

1/19/08 vianneyEE Message #3173
"I am new to this site and have read a few of the comments from the past week. One asked if there are secret tunnels under campus. I can tell you that there are. I discovered these one summer while at a camp when I was in high school. They run all over campus from building to building. At one point I remember we were near the monastery and could hear voices from above. There were many locked doors and some open ones too. After exploring for several hours we were caught by Br. Willie and he gave us a tour of the bowels of the library. My point is that if no one has searched those tunnels, it could be well worth it. As I said, I am new to this site and Josh popped into my mind today. My son just graduated from SJU this past May. I am also an alum. It troubles me that in my mind there is no shortage of possible suspects that have come and gone and are still there. Taking into acount the ways of many of the monks and the overall attitude. Has anyone looked into Josh's relationships with any of the aforementioned monks? The infamous list of 13 -14 of them is just the ones who were caught and I know for a fact that at least one of those is still doing things that were supposed to be out of bounds for these monks. ... May God bless the Guimond family and may there be justice for them."

I'm assuming the law still hasn't met with Alex. If that is the case, I would continue to pressure them to at least meet with the guy and see what his tempeture is. May just be an innocent thing but worth a trip down the road.

1/19/08 joshs dad Message #3171
josh told at least two people he was going back to his dorm room and never made it there.as far as i know there never was any investigating done the way it should have been done right from the start.

1/17/08 Aubs Message #3170
It's possible that Alex -- anticipating that investigators might take a look at Josh's hard drive -- wanted to "help" his friend by making sure there was nothing embarrassing on Josh's computer. Of course, it's equally possible that a third party with access to Alex's password could have used it to take a peek. Whatever the case, one would expect law enforcement to investigate fully.

1/17/08 Joshs uncle Message #3169
In answer to some of the previous questions; my understanding is that Alex was one of Josh's roommates. We do have his full name, but I don't have it handy (Brian does). I don't know if it was Alex who accessed Josh's computer or someone with his user/password. No attempt has ever been made to recover more information. Brian has his hard drive now. The room was never considered a crime scene. Alex was on the computer on Tues PM until early Wed AM. The police took it after that.

1/17/08 Webmaster Message #3168
"Hmmm, some interesting activity on the message board lately... ... Being an I.T. Type, that certainly opens up several questions in my mind. (I'm not certain they should be answered in this public space, but they should be answered by someone...) ... 1. When was Alex's activity in relationship to when Josh was reported missing? Was it being considered a crime scene at that time? Did the S.O. take the computer at that time? ... 2. Where was the computer physically located when this occurred? Still in Josh's room? If so, why? ... 3. Did / does the I.T. staff at St Johns have any e-mail or other record of network/Internet activity at that time coming from Josh's computer? Did anyone from the S.O. ask? If it were on my network, I would have at least set asside server logs and backups from the timeframe in question!! ... 4. Do you still have the Hard drive and computer available for better forensic experts to take a look at? ... There are places that can take a better look at computer data especially if they know they are looking for activity concerning the dissapearance of a person. No offense intended to the good folks involved with the Best Buy Geek Squad, but these are not people trained in digging out forensic data from a hard drive. Normally, one would trust the Sherriff's office to obtain the proper assistance with this from FBI or other sources, but in this case, it might be worth while looking elseware for support. Just remember to do it in such a way as to find and not damage evidence that may still remain. ... "

1/17/08 DoubleDash Message #3167
And was it really Alex accessing Josh's computer or someone else using Alex's name/computer, I wonder...

1/17/08 BMW Message #3166
To Joshs uncle: Do you have any idea what relation Alex was to Josh? Do you have a full name for him? How do you know that a person with this name was using his computer? It seems haphazard that someone would go through the trouble of washing a computer and yet still leave a record of their work. Has anyone ever attempted to recover the data from the computer? Many "washing" techniques are simply surface wipes and do not comply with Department of Defense data security standards. There is still a chance that at least a portion of the data is recoverable.

1/17/08 Joshs uncle Message #3165
I would like to clarify some things in response to some people bringing up the internet waher site. The cops had Josh's hard drive for about a month after he went missing. When we got it back, we wanted to have the geek squad go through it, but they couldn't without Josh's approval (since he was legally just missing). We got it back in January and started to go through everything. While doing so, we discovered that someone named Alex accessed Josh's computer from 11:48PM Tuesday, 11/12, until just before 1AM Wednesday, 11/13. Obviously this was well after Josh went missing. Alex had been to an internet washer site. When we informed the lead investigator of this, he had no idea. Their forensic experts had obviously done nothing when they had the hard drive. The investigator called me several weeks later to ask where on the computer we had found the info. I asked him whether he had talked to Alex. He said Alex had graduated in December and moved to his family's home in Shakopee. He said he might have the Shakopee police talk to him, or he mightdo it himself; he wasn't sure how he wanted to proceed. Next I heard, they said Alex had moved to Europe. I've never heard anything more, but I do know they never talked to him. Go figure. A guy goes missing, someone is on his computer in a suspicious way and the cops never even talk to him. A true measure of how the whole case was handled.

1/15/08 Aubs Message #3164
Sometime around midnight, Josh got up from his seat at the card game and left the Metten Court apartment. His intent is unknown. It is not known whether he planned to walk back to his dorm, step outside for whatever reason and return to the card game, or something else.

1/15/08 BILLY BLAST Message #3163
It seems 2 different stories from the start as well. Maybe it's just people getting it wrong. But was Josh going to the bathroom or to his dorm? Something as simple as this could break the case open. I'm not making accusations, BUT NOTHING SHOULD EVER BE RULED OUT UNLESS SOMETHING ELSE PROVES OTHERWISE.

1/15/08 billy blast Message #3162
"You most likly have heard this before. I don't know the level of accuracy of the statement. Here it is anyway. ... Bloodhounds ... A bloodhound found both Josh Guimond and Christopher Jenkins' scent at the university. On December 31, 2002, authorities were REFUSED entrance to the campus monastery, then, on January 14, 2003 they were granted permission into the abby. Reportedly the dog picked up ''definite scent activity with both boys but it was stronger with Josh.'' ... IF IT'S TRUE, HOW COULD THEY ACCEPT BEING DENIED ACCESS? WHAT WOULD BE THE LOGIC IN DENYING LAW ENFORECMENT TO RULE OUT ANY AND ALL POSSIBILITES?"

1/14/08 BILLY BLAST Message #3161
I would think this would qualify as a cold case if they aren't working it on a regular basis. I can't imagine them saying anything but "until we have new leads to follow there's nothing more we can do." I hope that's not the case but....... maybe a different set of eye's would help. Starting from scratch with the last people to see Josh??????

1/14/08 bob guimond Message #3160
Any one have an idea how to get the people in charge to let us get it classified a cold case, so me may be able to get a different view on things

1/14/08 Aubs Message #3159
Nick is correct in that there are no tunnels on campus that could be described as "secret." I can't vouch for exactly where searches were conducted, but law enforcement has claimed that they have adequately searched all buildings and grounds on campus. On May 6, 2004, a year after the Trident Foundation reported their finding that Josh was not in any lake on campus, the St. Cloud Times reported the Stearns County sheriff as saying that no more searches were planned, unless new information came to investigators. In my opinion, if Josh was abducted, it's more likely than not that he was taken to a remote, off-campus location.
