7/24/07 DoubleDash Message #3052
I don't consider myself a conspiracy theorist -- but -- oft times I wonder about the relationship between certain entities in the area from which Joshua was abducted -- and the intimidation and fear factor -- do you understand what I mean BMW? Some organizations have the means and the power to subdue others ... perhaps these are the layers of which you speak. The question is -- who is sandwiched in those layers. We really don't know that, do we?

7/24/07 BMW Message #3051
I think the majority of posters on this forum can agree that foul play is likely involved in Josh's disappearance. I am merely working from the premise that the majority of abductions that remain unsolved for years result in homicide. I apologize if I am coming across as insensitive. I hope in my heart of hearts that I am wrong and that Josh is alive some place. Though I understand your reservations about law enforcement, I do not advocate withholding information from the police. It is impossible to say what layers are operating beyond the Stearns County Sheriff. Keeping vital information from them could prove disastrous.

7/19/07 DoubleDash Message #3050
Good thinking -- anyone with info to help find Josh, please put it directly in the contact info on this website -- thanks ...

7/18/07 josh dad Message #3049
BMW why do you assume Josh was killed? Everything you seem to say has Josh dead, maybe you should look at the facts again. Telling the authorities may not be the best thing to do here, but putting the info to the contact section here would be better.

7/15/07 DoubleDash Message #3047
First of all, I feel a lot of information has been kept hidden from the public about Joshua's case. The public has been fed the same old groundless "theories" about what happened to Josh. I feel there is a lot of secrecy -- and that secrecy extends to the sheriff's dept. I think. Second, we need people who might have information to find it within themselves to come forward and help. Why are they so afraid to do that? Embarassment, or fear? As much as I am tempted to consult psychics, I feel like I shouldn't ... I did not like that so called psychic on the "Montel' show at all. She didn't know what she was talking about!! And her b.s. did nothing to help this case. Honestly, I don't understand *why* the sheriff's dept. did not ask the FBI for help. I just find that unbelievable. And I don't want to hear the excuse that there was "no evidence of foul play." Excuse me? A college student is gone!! Vanished!Every place on that campus has been searched!! No one in their right mind would even think Joshua walked away of his own accord!! We are not stupid ... I have some news for the person who did this, none of us will stop looking until we get answers. There is no perfect crime. BMW, how long do you think a criminal can hide in plain sight?

7/15/07 josh dad Message #3046
So how come no one has anything?

7/9/07 josh dad Message #3045
Given these facts, why do the authorities want everybody to beleive Josh is in a lake? Maybe it is so nobody is looking for Josh all around the country. Remember the sheriff admits they have no evidence of anything so why is it not possible Josh was abducted from St. Johns University?

7/9/07 DoubleDash Message #3044
Excellent letter, Mr.Guimond. I hope the magazine issues a correction and apology in its next issue. We've got to keep correcting these untrue stories.

7/9/07 Maple Lake Messenger Message #3043
"To the Editor of Cosmopolitan: ... Josh went missing from St. John’s University campus the night of Nov. 9 and Nov. 10, 2002, around the midnight hour. Officially I was not notified until around 10 p.m. Nov. 10. At the time Sheriff Kostreba said Josh went into Stump Lake and drowned. Mind you, no evidence of anything, so they did nothing for two days but tell us Josh was in Stump Lake, except they could not find his body. ... On June 5, 2003, I received a letter from SJU stating that the Trident Foundation has cleared all three lakes on SJU campus and now Sheriff Sanner said the campus has been satisfactorily examined. Then on Nov. 18, 2004, I received a letter from Bradley Wenz (soil conservationist at the Stearns County Soil & Water Conservation District) stating that there is no natural soil type that was not already under a foot of water or more that could drown a person and completely cover them up, such as a quicksand-type soil. ... Then on Dec. 5, 2004, in the Star & Tribune newspaper, Sheriff Sanner stated, ''The student probably wandered into a swampy area or fell into a lake.'' No activity has been on his credit cards since he went missing. Everybody that knows Josh says he would not have left on his own, therefore, the only other thing that could have happened is he was abducted. ... Given these facts, Joshua should not have been lumped in with these other young men in the Cosmopolitan July issue story. This does not seem to be very responsible journalism to me. ... Brian Guimond ... "

stephackwill you can get her info to me through the contact section might be the best,I can see if what she knows falls in line wiyh what we already know.

6/26/07 stephackwill Message #3041
"ok, I sent a email to the cosmo people. ... This may be something you think, ''already done that'' BUT, I have come accross this woman named Marti Tote, she isnt a Physic, isn't a medium, but can talk to ''people'' who have crossed and also ''people'' that can 'tell her things' I don't know how she does it, but if I wasn't a believer before, I am now. It's incredible what she 'knows' or is 'told'. If you would like her information, I can get it to you. If you do not fell comfortable with it, that is fine too. But I think it may be worth a shot."

6/26/07 DoubleDash Message #3040
The drowning theory needs to be put to rest, period. I have had the same experience of people mixing up Josh's case with Chris Jenkins. The fact is, unless a person thoroughly researches Josh's case, and I mean thoroughly, they will not be able to evaluate it properly. My question is, why don't people care? Why does the community just sit there and not demand answers? How come all the attention goes to only certain missing persons cases? I don't understand the apathy. It is definitely not okay that a student disappears on a college campus, never to be seen again! I think articles outlining the true facts of Josh's case need to be written and published in magazines, newspapers, online, etc. The public needs to understand everything that's happened (especially Trident's investigation) and realize that something is terribly amiss. This is so unbelievably frustrating.

6/26/07 Josh dad Message #3039
I called the magazine, they said I could write a letter to the editor,or send an e-mail.I said the damage was done. Here is the e-mail address cosmo@hearst.com , feel free to let them know maybe if enough people say something they can clearify the facts.

6/26/07 stephackwill Message #3038
Sorry for not responding quicker! (It was the July issue of cosmopolitan) I did read the article and was extremely upset by the common implication that this author and many other imply, just because of his age and 'a college' kid that he HAD to be out partying and drunk.. Has anyone tried to contact this writer and express the TRUTH? I will do whatever, and I'm not sure if you even know who I am, but whatever you need, please just ask! I live in the Reno area now.

6/25/07 Aubs Message #3037
DoubleDash: As Nick rightly notes, "it's not good when the article implies that Josh was a drowning victim." I would add that it's journalistically irresponsible to perpetuate that myth -- as was done in a Minneapolis Star Tribune article and a CNN report "When Drinking Leads to Drowning" in the past year or two. In my conversations with local members of the public, I've encountered more than one person who thought Josh was found in the Mississippi River; they confuse him with Chris Jenkins, who disappeared just 10 days before Josh, or St. Cloud State student Scot Radel, who drowned in February 2006.

6/25/07 DoubleDash Message #3036
Unfortunately, as the years roll past, and I consult with various researchers and professionals, the common thought is that Josh drowned. This is the easiest thing for people to believe based upon a cursory review of what happened that night. I have seen that the vast majority of people who look at Josh's case have not delved deeper, examined more thoroughly, nor comprehensively analyzed the entire set of facts. This is unfortunate, as it prevents more people from researching it the way it needs to be done. Aubs, BMW, would you care to weigh in?

6/25/07 Nick Message #3035
Thanks for the heads-up, stephackwill. I obtained a copy of the latest issue of Cosmopolitan after reading that, and Josh's picture is indeed in it. There is an article about men who drowned, and the theories surrounding it (both alcohol and a serial killer). Unfortunately, as we've seen in the past in other articles, the author seems to assume that Josh was a drowning victim, when we know that that wasn't the case. The article doesn't actually mention Josh. There is a fairly large array of pictures of men who have drowned (and Josh), with their names written underneath them as a caption. The article only discusses a relatively small number of the men, though, and Josh is not one of them. Though it's always good for Josh's name and picture to be in a major publication, it's not good when the article implies that Josh was a drowning victim.

6/22/07 josh dad Message #3034
What magazine and why is Joshs picture there?

6/20/07 stephackwill Message #3033
I just had to leave a comment today. (I used to work at Target with Josh back when he was in high school) I had an odd thing happen today, I was at the supermarket checkout and I am one that NEVER picks up the magazines, but today I decided to pick up the cosmo one, it fell and opened up to Josh's face. I couldnt beleive it. I had been actually thinking about him alot lately and wondering where things were with the search. I just can't get over how this page was the one that it opened to. Then I came on here and found it was just his birthday. Just want you to know I still think of him often. I pray for his return.

6/18/07 Nick Message #3032
Happy birthday, Josh. I hope that this is finally the one that is the last until you are found.

6/5/07 DoubleDash Message #3029
I only know of Mr. Rothstein through my reseach, Mr. Guimond, I do not know him personally.

6/5/07 josh dad Message #3028
You did not answer my question, how do you know Jim?

5/30/07 DoubleDash Message #3027
" ... Jim Rothstein is one of the few detectives brave enough and determined enough to dig deeper into uncovering child sex rings, especially those which cater to ''higher ups'' meaning anyone with the means to buy what these criminals are selling. I learned about him when I was researching the Johnny Gosch case, and listened to him in an interview he gave with ''A Closer Look.'' It's been awhile but as I recall that was a very enlightening interview. ... ''Jim Rothstein shed light on the national problem of government protection of pedophiles in a 2002 radio interview. While he was a New York Police Detective, Jim ''investigated and was successful in gaining convictions of several notorious criminals dealing in child prostitution and kidnapping both locally and nationally.'' Jim says that that there are satanic links to child kidnappings but that ''law enforcement personnel often refuse to investigate'' these satanic links and ''they insist there is no such thing.'' ... According to Jim and many others: ''The evidence shows that child kidnapping may and probably does often have the cooperation of local and national police departments and the FBI. Further, Jim says that good cops who take on these cases find that they become victims themselves. They are harassed by higher ups within their department and even by other agents from around the country. Pressures are exerted on them to holdup or even halt their investigations. According to Jim, one of his most troubling cases was that of Willie Dunn. Dunn was a major supplier of children; he was involved in kidnapping and the buying and selling of children. Dunn was convicted and sentenced to prison but somebody within our government set him free. After being set free, Dunn continued kidnapping, buying and selling children across the country. He was prosecuted and convicted a number of times but Jim says, each time 'someone would let him out to continue his operations around the United States.'''"

5/29/07 josh dad Message #3026
So how do you know Jim Rothstein, and what he is looking into?

5/27/07 DoubleDash Message #3025
"(Excerpt from an article about the Wetterling abduction written by Steve Irsay of Court TV News) ... ---------------------- ... ''What was unique about it was that we never had a kidnapping where there were witnesses and someone at gunpoint took the child in front of other children,'' said Paul McCabe, a Minnesota FBI agent. ... What Trevor Wetterling and Aaron Larsen described ... – a mask, a gun and a selection process – spawned a variety of theories. ... ... The use of a mask suggested to some that the kidnapper might have been known in the community and was trying to shield his identity. Perhaps the boys even knew him. ... But the boys were in close physical proximity to the kidnapper, and heard his voice several times. They never identified the criminal as someone in particular. ... Investigators also could not recall an instance of a stranger child kidnapping in which a gun was involved. When pedophiles take children, it is for sex. They do not want to harm them physically. The gun suggests that violence was perhaps the kidnapper’s motive. ... Another theory is that the abductor stalked Jacob. The secluded crime scene suggests that the abductor did not just stumble upon the scene. And the reports of a suspicious man at the Tom Thumb store appear to back that up. ... Later, Jerry Wetterling recalled a moment from earlier on the day of the abduction that could also lend support to the stalker theory. ... That afternoon, Jerry and his two sons were skating at a hockey tryout. There were about 20 spectators. Suddenly, Jacob slipped out of sight. ... ''It was very strange but very real,'' Jerry remembered. ''I had this sense of danger for Jacob. I can almost point to the spot on the ice where it happened to this day.'' ... After relocating his son, Jerry’s feeling subsided. He thought nothing of it until a few days after the abduction. ... ''It prompted me to wonder if possibly the abductor had been in the ice arena at that time, in a sense looking at Jacob or stalking him,'' Jerry said. ... Also baffling was the kidnapper’s selection process. Abductors are generally not so picky. Presumably, the kidnapper knew a bit about what he was getting if he had stalked the boys. ... ''In the Wetterling case the first conclusion was that it was a sexual abduction,'' said Prof. Paula Fass, who discusses the case in her book, Kidnapped: Child Abduction in America. ''The conclusion has been that when that type of selection takes place there is a preference being expressed for a certain age.'' But Fass added that the age selection is not necessarily for a sexual purpose. ... Jim Rothstein, a retired New York Police Department detective currently researching the disappearance, goes so far as to suggest that Jacob was captured by a pedophile ring. These rings, Rothstein asserts, procure and trade boys. ... "

Today is National Missing Children's Day. As most of you know, the five year anniversary of Joshua's disappearance is coming up. I hope each person reading this will find some way to reach out and help find Joshua. If you know something, will you speak up? Will you help? God bless the Guimond family.

5/24/07 josh dad Message #3023
With what we know I can say the same organization is involved with Josh and Jacob.

5/23/07 DoubleDash Message #3022
In honor of National Missing Children's Day on May 25th, please keep Joshua and his family in your prayers...and, try to do one thing to bring Joshua's plight to the attention of the media, politicians and/or public. Email your local newspaper or one of the news programs, write your Congressman (again), talk to people who might have seen or know something -- reach out, speak up, observe, communicate...to let everyone know Joshua's case is still very much alive. And to let the perpetrator know, he is not off the hook

5/23/07 DoubleDash Message #3021
Well stated, Aubs. I see the connection clearly. I also believe it is the same person. I wish the kids who witnessed the Wetterling abduction could be hypnotized in order to try to obtain clearer details. Also, the boy who was abducted, raped and let go. I wish I could show them all a line up and see what shakes out...

5/23/07 Aubs Message #3020
On Friday night, January 13, 1989, a 12-year-old Cold Spring boy named Jared is walking home from a hockey game when he is grabbed by the shoulders, dragged into a car, driven to a remote location in nearby Richmond, and sexually assaulted before being released outside Cold Spring. Nine months later, Jacob Wetterling is abducted a little more than 10 miles away in St. Joseph. Then, 13 years later and about 6 miles distant in Collegeville, Josh Guimond disappears without a trace while walking alone on campus. All three incidents occurred after dark and on a weekend. It would be a stretch of the imagination to assert with any degree of confidence that these three cases are unrelated. What are the chances of two or three violent offenders targeting young males within a 10-mile radius in a thinly populated rural area, all apparently using a similar MO?

5/22/07 DoubleDash Message #3019
BMW, Aubs, Mr. Guimond, anyone -- think there might be a link between Jacob's disappearance and Josh's?

5/22/07 DoubleDash Message #3018
" May 21, 2007 11:34 pm US/Central ... Wetterling Siblings Reach Out To Other Kids ... ... Caroline Lowe ... Reporting ... (WCCO) This fall marks the 18 years since a stranger abducted 11-year-old Jacob Wetterling from his home in rural St. Joseph, Minn. He hasn't been seen since. ... Jacob was biking home with his younger brother Trevor and a friend. They had gone to a convenience store to rent a video. On the way home, Jacob was abducted at gunpoint by a masked man who ordered the other boys to run. ... ''I sometimes have dreams about it that I don't really remember,'' said Trevor. ''There is an unknown, we really can't think differently until there is proof.'' ... While Trevor and his sisters, Amy and Carmen, wait for answers to what happened to Jacob, the siblings have helped produce a survivors guide and video for other children whose siblings have been abducted. ... Six other siblings of abduction victims worked on the book with the Wetterlings. The book was unveiled at a U.S. Department of Justice ceremony May 25 in Washington, D.C. where Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was the keynote speaker. It was a very emotional ceremony with lots of tears and hugs as the video was shown in a packed theater. ... The nine siblings said they developed a strong bond as they shared their stories which were included in the book. The book is called, ''What About Me? Coping with the Abduction of a Brother or Sister''. ... The Wetterlings said it was comforting to see how much they had in common with the other siblings who came from opposite ends of the country. They hope it helps future victims' siblings (sadly, the Wetterlings are still the only siblings involved in the project who still don't know what happened to their loved one). ... ''If you are a sibling going through this, that they know that they are not alone,'' said Carmen. ... In the video, Amy talked about facing Jacob's birthdays without knowing where he was. ... ''I think we still have birthday presents in our garage wrapped up for Jacob from the first few years,'' she said. ... Trevor talked about his frustration when he heard police investigators question whether he was telling the truth about the abductor carrying a gun. ... ''They kept questioning like I wasn't telling them the truth,'' he said. ... ''I can't imagine anybody questioning that?'' asked Caroline Lowe. ... ''That really made me angry because, I was like, well let me put a gun to your head and then see what you do or see what you say, you know?'' said Trevor. ... Trevor was only in the fourth grade when Jacob was abducted. He said kids were sometimes cruel, second-guessing how he handled the situation. ... Amy, the oldest Wetterling child, said, ''I think Trevor's come a long way in having to come to terms with what happened and that he didn't, there wasn't anything he could have done to prevent it.'' ... The Wetterling siblings have avoided the media spotlight. They only agreed to talk publicly about their experiences to raise awareness of the sibling survival guide. ... While the Wetterlings are helping others, they are still waiting for answers to what happened to their brother. ... ''It's been more than half of all of our lives we have gone through having one less person in our family. It doesn't necessarily get easier, you, I guess, just learn how to live life,'' said Amy. ... Amy and Carmen are both married now and Amy has two young daughters. Trevor has moved out of state and sells real estate. ... "

DoubleDash -- regarding your 4/29/2007 8:43:56 PM post: We have evidence that an individual with a past history of sexual misconduct made unwanted sexual advances toward another student around the time of Josh's disappearance.   BMW, I doubt the offender will ever willingly confess due to his deviancy. What I'm curious about, though, is who else might have had encounters with this person and was left feeling uneasy -- someone who has a legitimate complaint that would require a thorough evaluation by the authorities...and by "thorough" I mean an objective and indepth examination of the offense. I still feel there are other victims/witnesses who are either frightened, embarrassed or in some kind of denial -- all of which I completely understand. I'm still counting on a brave soul(s) to gather the courage to come forward. That's one of the main points of this website, to receive those tips in a confidential way -- even if you feel you need to be anonymous -- if you know anything about what happened to Josh...please help. BMW, a deviant's stripes do not change, there must be other victims -- this is a puzzle with a particular piece that needs verification -- who was lurking around Josh in the weeks/months leading up to his disappearance? Who took a particular interest in him -- was anyone seen watching him?; did he mention to anyone being uncomfortable around a specific person? If these questions generate a gut feeling to anyone-- send your thoughts confidentially to Josh's Dad or post them here. The perpetrator is hiding in plain sight, smug as a bug, but if I were him, I would not be so smug.

4/29/07 BMW Message #3012
DoubleDash: Unfortunately, knowledge gained from the field of social psychology would suggest a rather low likelihood of coming forward. Even if this individual were a direct witness of the crime, research shows that there is likely little perceived responsibility for the individual to come forward. This is especially true if there was only one witness and the perpetrator is someone of power. As for individuals who merely have a hypothesis about the perpetrator or simply a "hunch," most are unlikely to come forward until they have what they would consider proof. I would encourage individuals who are familiar with the area to hold on to their hunches and not dismiss them. The human mind has an extraordinary ability to draw accurate conclusions without concerted effort.

We're still here. Yes, the public is forced to solve crimes when law enforcement doesn't even believe a crime has been committed. Somehow we have to keep the public's attention focused on Josh's case. Aubs maybe you could write an article to be published around the five year anniversary of Josh's disappearance. We just have to keep putting Josh's name out there and keep hoping and praying someone will step forward with information.

4/27/07 Josh Dad Message #3010

For information: The Jacob Wetterling Foundation [http://www.jwf.org] does not search for missing persons. Its focus is education to prevent the exploitation of children. However, it offers resources to assist the families of missing children and adults, including: "What You Should Do When Your Child Is First Missing"; "Missing Adults - A Checklist for Families"; "Working with the News Media - Tips for Families"; "Interaction with Law Enforcement - Tips for Families."

Double Dash, it is my understanding The Vidocq Society only works on homicides, lets not forget there is no evidence of that. On the contrary myself and a handful of others know Josh was abducted and is alive. Aubs, the only thing the Jacob Wetterling Foundation did for us is help put a poster together right after Josh went missing. To my knowledge they have not found a single missing person.

Double Dash,It is my understanding the Vidocq Society only works on homicides, lets not forget there is no evidence to that. With what I know, and a handful of others we know Josh was abducted without a doubt and is alive. 4/19/07 DoubleDash Message #3005
BMW, I feel certain someone is highly suspicious of the perpetrator. But they may be afraid of him. I believe there is at least one person in his environment that sees through his professional status or community reputation. There lurks a dangerous person within the surrounding area from which Josh was taken. Someone knows his ugly secrets. Time to connect the dots.

4/19/07 DoubleDash Message #3004
p.s. to anyone out there who may have seen something, or who may know something, you can email the info through this website if you do not want to deal with the sheriff or other authorities. If you need to have your identity protected just say so. If we don't work together there won't be any justice for Josh.

4/19/07 DoubleDash Message #3003
I totally understand, BMW. But I would think that, given that an innocent young man has been taken, someone out there would be willing to put their fears/doubts aside in order to do the right thing. Surely there are people who had strange encounters with the abductor -- who got a bad vibe from him because of certain things he did or said. Then there is the question of evidence. Even if the abduction was rehearsed, surely at that hour someone would have seen the abductor in the vicinity of where Josh was. We need those witnesses to come forward. And I wonder, how long can a predator repress his violent need to go after someone again. The temptation for him has to be great. Imagine if someone hacked into his computer, what might they find?

4/18/07 BMW Message #3002
DoubleDash: Fear of retribution is often a worry of potential witnesses. In addition, witnesses often question their own perceptions, especially when the person they suspect is someone who has a reputation within a community.
