4/23/10 DoubleDash Message #3468
This is a plea to people who have information about what happened to Joshua. Can you see what we are and have been up against? I know you don't owe us anything -- I know it might not even be in your best interest to communicate with us. But I'm going to ask for your help anyway. I do believe people can change -- I do believe than people can turn over a new leaf in life and decide to be different. Were you there when Joshua was taken, or did you hear something? Please, it's never too late to do the right thing. Please, I am asking you to contact Grandpa Bob Guimond and help him. He is still waiting to hear from you. Thank you.

police usually act like this when they screw up and it is a dam shame the public is letting there officials act this way , it is time that janelle stops hiding behind laws that dont save her .The laws she hides behinds have no baring to what the family is asking for and i think she believes that since they dont have a law degree no one will challenge her , well Janelle you are wrong again and it is pretty bad when strangers i talk to state that your county is the county of corrupt courts cops county officials .Wow it is a pretty well known fact that you have nothing to be proud of when your county plays this way

There are answers to all Grandpa Bob's questions. The problem is, no one wants to give those answers. And why is that, you might wonder? The answer is, because telling the truth would cause way too many problems for way too many people. However, never underestimate the power of love to find the truth -- especially when a family member is involved. And never believe for a moment that lies will forever snuff out truth. Love and truth trump hate and lies. Now, if you didn't believe that six, seven or eight years ago -- what about now? Does the value of a human life mean something? Can you find it within yourself to tell the truth? Lord knows the authorities aren't willing --too much power and $$$ to lose -- some things just never change. But what about you? You can make a difference. You can be different -- even if you weren't before -- you could be different now, and do the right thing. Please help. There is still some crucial information needed, and I know that someone has it. Is that someone you? Please come forward. The authorities will not help, the family must find out what happened to Joshua on their own. Can you imagine how difficult this is? Will you help? We do serve a forgiving God, so it's never too late. James 2:19: "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."

What happened to Joshua Guimond? Did you live in the St. John's community seven + years ago? What did you see? Did you know Joshua? What did you observe? Did anyone in the surrounding area strike you as being strange? Was there someone who made you feel particularly uncomfortable? Did you hear certain things that you wondered about? What were your own experiences? Do you have any information you think might help the Guimond family unravel the mystery of what might have happened to their son? Can you help? Please send your info to Grandpa Bob Guimond. He is waiting for your information. Thank you

4/10/10 DoubleDash Message #3456
"The time to tell the truth is now -- get it all out there and address it -- that is the only way for complete justice, and healing. ... ------------------------------------ ... The Vatican is being urged to arrange meetings between victims of clerical sexual abuse and Pope Benedict XVI when he comes to the UK later this year. ... Victim support groups, including the Survivors' Network of those Abused by Priests (Snap) and One in Four UK, said such encounters would help defuse anger and demonstrate the church's concern for its wounded congregation. ... The call comes after the papal spokesman, Father Federico Lombardi, said that the pope had ''written of his readiness to hold new meetings'' with abuse victims in the ''context of his concern'' for them. Lombardi's statement is the strongest indication so far that the Vatican will continue to reach out to victims of clerical sexual abuse through papal visits. The pope's British visit in September would be a high-profile opportunity to do so. ... There was further embarrassment for the Roman Catholic church in England yesterday, when it was reported that a paedophile priest was allowed to continue abusing victims despite being investigated by a child protection commission chaired by the archbishop of Westminster, Vincent Nichols. Catholic officials denied that Nichols knew any details of the case involving the London priest, Father David Pearce, who was eventually arrested in 2008. ... Church officials said last week that the papal itinerary had yet to be finalised and would neither confirm nor deny that the Vatican was looking at arranging meetings with abuse victims. ... Snap, which is opening a UK office to cope with the demand for support from victims, said it ''fully expected'' meetings with abuse victims to happen in the UK. But victims' groups warned that such meetings must be open and transparent. Similar meetings in Australia and the US had been clandestine and orchestrated, they said, with church leaders selecting suitable candidates for encounters that, despite their secret and unofficial nature, attracted positive headlines. ... Maeve Lewis, from One in Four, said: ''In Australia and the USA, there was no opportunity for victims to set their own agenda. There was no chance to ask difficult questions.'' ... Last month one abuse victim, Bernie McDaid, from Peabody, Massachusetts, revealed how he was chosen to attend a secret meeting with the pope during the 2008 papal visit to the US. McDaid was abused by a Boston-based priest who molested at least 40 boys in the area. ... Cardinal Sean O'Malley, the archbishop of Boston, arranged the meeting in Washington DC between a mass and a papal address to Catholic educators after the pope declined an invitation to go to Boston, one of the areas worst affected by clerical sexual abuse. ... McDaid told Associated Press he had left the chapel believing Benedict had grasped the scale of the problem and the pain caused by it. But two years of subsequent inaction by the church left him disillusioned. ''Was it a PR move? Looking back at that now, I have to say it was. Everything they do is not about the children. It's about the church. It's always the church first,'' he said. ... The past few months have seen devastating revelations about clerical sexual abuse and its concealment in churches and Catholic-run institutions across Europe, prompting outrage from the public, and profuse apologies and promises of investigations from the most senior Catholics on the continent. ... Next weekend Benedict visits Malta, itself shaken after botched handling of abuse claims. It was reported this month that 45 priests had been accused of sexual offences since the creation of a church response team in 1999. None of the cases has been referred to the police – the retired judge who heads the project said that was the responsibility of victims and parents. The island, which has a population of 400,000, is 98% Catholic and abortion and divorce are banned. ... Amid the expressions of regret from bishops about paedophile priests in their ranks, there is also quiet fury about the €750,000 bill for the two-day trip. ... "

"LOS ANGELES ... LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four years after a California priest and convicted child molester asked to be defrocked, his bishop pleaded with the future Pope Benedict XVI to remove the man from the priest... ... LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four years after a California priest and convicted child molester asked to be defrocked, his bishop pleaded with the future Pope Benedict XVI to remove the man from the priesthood. Then-Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger replied, urging caution. ... ''Consider the good of the Universal Church,'' Ratzinger wrote in a 1985 letter to Oakland Bishop John Cummins. ''It is necessary for this Congregation to submit incidents of this sort to very careful consideration, which necessitates a longer period of time.'' ... Two more years would pass before the Vatican acted on the Rev. Stephen Kiesle's request to leave. ... A copy of the letter, typewritten in Latin and signed by Ratzinger, was obtained by The Associated Press. It constitutes the strongest challenge yet to the Vatican's insistence that Benedict played no role in blocking the removal of pedophile priests during his years as head of the Catholic Church's doctrinal watchdog office. ... The letter is part of years of correspondence beginning in 1981 between the diocese of Oakland and the Vatican about Kiesle, who pleaded no contest to misdemeanors involving child molestation in 1978. ... The Vatican confirmed Friday that the letter had Ratzinger's signature and said it was a typical form letter used in laicization cases. Attorney Jeffrey Lena said the matter proceeded ''expeditiously, not by modern standards, but by those standards at the time,'' and that the bishop was to guard against further abuse. ... Another spokesman, the Rev. Ciro Benedettini, said the letter showed no attempt at a cover-up. ''The then-Cardinal Ratzinger didn't cover up the case, but as the letter clearly shows, made clear the need to study the case with more attention, taking into account the good of all involved.'' ... The diocese recommended removing Kiesle (KEEZ'-lee) from the priesthood in 1981, the year Ratzinger was appointed to head the Vatican office that shared responsibility for disciplining abusive priests. ... The case then languished for four years at the Vatican before Ratzinger finally wrote to the Oakland bishop. It was two more years before Kiesle was removed; during that time he continued to do volunteer work with children through the church. ... In the November 1985 letter, Ratzinger says the arguments for removing Kiesle were of ''grave significance'' but added that such actions required very careful review and more time. He also urged the bishop to provide Kiesle with ''as much paternal care as possible'' while awaiting the decision, according to a translation for AP by Professor Thomas Habinek, chairman of the University of Southern California Classics Department. ... Lena, the Vatican attorney, said ''paternal care'' was a way of telling the bishop he was responsible for keeping Kiesle out of trouble. Lena said Kiesle was not accused of any child abuse in the 5½ years it took for the Vatican to act on the laicization. ... The future pope also noted that any decision to defrock Kiesle must take into account the ''good of the universal church'' and the ''detriment that granting the dispensation can provoke within the community of Christ's faithful, particularly considering the young age.'' Kiesle was 38 at the time. ... Kiesle had been sentenced in 1978 to three years' probation after pleading no contest to misdemeanor charges of lewd conduct for tying up and molesting two young boys in a San Francisco Bay area church rectory. ... Cummins, the bishop, told the Vatican that the priest took a leave of absence and met with a therapist and his probation officer during the three years. It's not clear from the file where Kiesle lived during those years, but Cummins mentions temporary assignments in neighboring dioceses that never worked out. ... As his probation ended in 1981, Kiesle asked to leave the priesthood and the diocese submitted papers to Rome to defrock him. ... In his earliest letter to Ratzinger, Cummins warned that returning Kiesle to ministry would cause more of a scandal than stripping him of his priestly powers. ... ''It is my conviction that there would be no scandal if this petition were granted and that as a matter of fact, given the nature of the case, there might be greater scandal to the community if Father Kiesle were allowed to return to the active ministry,'' Cummins wrote in 1982. ... While papers obtained by the AP include only one letter with Ratzinger's signature, correspondence and internal memos from the diocese refer to a letter dated Nov. 17, 1981, from the then-cardinal to the bishop. Ratzinger was appointed to head the Vatican's Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith a week later. ... California church officials wrote to Ratzinger at least three times to check on the status of Kiesle's case and Cummins discussed the case with officials during a Vatican visit, according to correspondence. At one point, a Vatican official wrote to say the file may have been lost and suggested resubmitting materials. ... Diocese officials considered writing Ratzinger again after they received his 1985 response to impress upon him that leaving Kiesle in the ministry would harm the church, Rev. George Mockel wrote in a memo to the Oakland bishop. ... ''My own reading of this letter is that basically they are going to sit on it until Steve gets quite a bit older,'' the memo said. ''Despite his young age, the particular and unique circumstances of this case would seem to make it a greater scandal if he were not laicized.'' ... As Kiesle's fate was being weighed in Rome, the priest returned to suburban Pinole to volunteer as a youth minister at St. Joseph Church, where he had been associate pastor from 1972-75. ... Kiesle was ultimately laicized on Feb. 13, 1987, though the documents do not indicate how or why. They also don't say what role — if any — Ratzinger had in the decision. ... Kiesle continued to volunteer with children, according to Maurine Behrend, who worked in the Oakland diocese's youth ministry office in the 1980s. After learning of his history, Behrend complained to church officials. When nothing was done she wrote a letter, which she showed to the AP. ... ''Obviously nothing has been done after EIGHT months of repeated notifications,'' she wrote. ''How are we supposed to have confidence in the system when nothing is done? A simple phone call to the pastor from the bishop is all it would take.'' ... She eventually confronted Cummins at a confirmation and Kiesle was gone a short time later, Behrend said. ... Kiesle, who married after leaving the priesthood, was arrested and charged in 2002 with 13 counts of child molestation from the 1970s. All but two were thrown out after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down as unconstitutional a California law extending the statute of limitations. ... He pleaded no contest in 2004 to a felony for molesting a young girl in his Truckee home in 1995 and was sentenced to six years in state prison. ... Kiesle, now 63 and a registered sex offender, lives in a Walnut Creek gated community, according to his address listed on the Megan's Law sex registry. An AP reporter was turned away when attempting to reach him for comment. ... William Gagen, an attorney who represented Kiesle in 2002, did not return a call for comment. ... More than a half-dozen victims reached a settlement in 2005 with the Oakland diocese alleging Kiesle had molested them as young children. ... ''He admitted molesting many children and bragged that he was the Pied Piper and said he tried to molest every child that sat on his lap,'' said Lewis VanBlois, an attorney for six Kiesle victims who interviewed the former priest in prison. ''When asked how many children he had molested over the years, he said 'tons.''' ... Cummins, 82 and now retired, initially told the AP he did not recall writing to Ratzinger about Kiesle, but he remembered when shown the letter with his signature on Friday. He said things had changed over the past quarter-century. ... ''When he (Ratzinger) took over I think he was following what was the practice of the time, that Pope John Paul was slowing these things down. You didn't just walk out of the priesthood then,'' Cummins said. ... ''These things were slow and their idea of thoroughness was a little more than ours. We were in a situation that was hands-on, with personal reaction.'' ... Documents obtained by the AP last week revealed similar instances of Vatican stalling in cases involving two Arizona clergy. ... In one case, the future pope took over the abuse case of the Rev. Michael Teta of Tucson, Ariz., then let it languish at the Vatican for years despite repeated pleas from the bishop for the man to be removed from the priesthood. ... In the second, the bishop called Msgr. Robert Trupia a ''major risk factor'' in a letter to Ratzinger. There is no indication in those files that Ratzinger responded. ... The Vatican has called the accusations ''absolutely groundless'' and said the facts were being misrepresented. ... ___ ... Associated Press writers Brooke Donald in Oakland, Eric Gorski in Denver, John Mone in San Diego, Raquel Maria Dillon in Los Angeles and Victor L. Simpson in Rome contributed to this report ... "

Hello Aunt Barb, Yes, I wrote that poem on a day when I was feeling especially forlorn about Joshua. I have a book of poetry that I wrote in the years since Joshua went missing, and many of the poems were inspired by his disappearance. I used to sell it at various local places but I've always been too busy to focus on my writing. I hope you liked the poem for Joshua -- I really think the Lord gave me those words. I can only hope people read it and understand the terrible frustration and pain the entire Guimond family has had to suffer through because of what has happened to their son...

"VATICAN CITY (AP) — At a solemn Good Friday service, Pope Benedict XVI's personal preacher likened the tide of allegations that the pontiff has covered up sex abuse cases to the ''more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism.'' But within hours, facing a storm of criticism at the comparison, the Vatican felt it necessary to distance the pope from the preacher's remarks. ... Both Jewish and victims' groups responded that it was inappropriate to compare the discomfort being experienced by the church leadership in the sex abuse scandal to the violence that culminated in the Holocaust. The Vatican has been on the defensive in recent days, saying the church has been singled out and collectively stereotyped for the problem of pedophilia, which it says is a society-wide issue. ... ---------------------------- ... Here's a thought -- instead of thinking only about personal power, influence and money -- how about thinking about Christ -- and everything He said about being TRUTHFUL and CARING ABOUT OTHERS. What choice do we have but to look at people involved in this cover up as a bunch of self serving hypocrites?? Until we see DEEDS, NOT WORDS, we are left unable to trust the church leadership. ... We are still working to uncover the FULL TRUTH about exactly what was going on with Joshua in the weeks leading up to his sudden disappearance -- what was he concerned about? What was he researching on his computer? Who was on the grounds of the campus that night as Joshua walked the short distance to his dorm? What alibis were checked, and if this was not done, why not? Is the law applicable to all people or just us poor sots who don't believe we're any more special in the eyes of our Lord than anyone else. Speak, and tell the truth!!!!!!!!!"

"Joshua -- they find this person alive, that person alive, but never you. What was done that you can't say where you are? Who is hiding the secret scars? Why don't those who could speak up, speak -- their hidden turmoil they quietly keep, as years spin by and days roll past, nothing is given each time we ask. While uniformed men and coiffed women stall, nothing is done; nothing at all. What feels like stone is the silent wall; empty words given each time we call; no one to hear, no one to care, just endless silence everywhere. Joshua, we live in a world of lies, where power tempts and man complies. I am sorry that truth is hidden from sight, and the quest for truth is an endless fight; but onward we'll go to surmount the wall, and someday we'll watch the silence fall. ... Happy Easter dear Joshua"

3/28/10 DoubleDash Message #3441
''"New revelations about Pope Benedict XVI’s alleged role in covering up accusations of sexual abuse by Catholic clergy have exposed the Vatican to the risk of lawsuits brought by victims around the world. ... Mounting anger at the Catholic Church’s failure to act on predatory priests in the U.S., Europe and Mexico has plunged the papacy into an institutional crisis described by an American Catholic newspaper last week as ''the largest in centuries.'' ... Yesterday the Vatican denounced the ''aggressive persistence'' of critics who were attempting to ''involve the Holy Father personally in the matter of abuse.'' A spokesman told Vatican Radio that the Pope’s record was ''above discussion.'' ... Yet the talk in Catholic circles was of little else as the Pope’s former life as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, archbishop of Munich and senior Vatican administrator, came under intensifying scrutiny. ... Last week it was alleged that, as head of the Vatican office monitoring priestly misconduct, Ratzinger failed to punish Father Lawrence Murphy, who abused up to 200 boys at a Wisconsin school for the deaf. ... The Pope’s alleged role in the Wisconsin case emerged only when litigants who claim to be victims of abuse obtained internal church documents as part of their lawsuit. U.S. lawyers in other cases are now determined to sue the Vatican for access to material that may shed light on relations between Rome and American bishops and the extent to which there may have been a policy to hush up abuse by priests.'' ... 3/7/10 DoubleDash Message #3437
Imagine if you came home one day expecting to find a loved one there and there was no one -- and that person did not come back in a week, nor in a month -- and then a year went by, then another. Then, the next thing you know seven birthdays, seven Christmas', seven Easters and seven Thanksgivings had gone by -- and still -- no word. You went to the "authorities" for help and they tried to gaslight you, and make you think that you're the one with the problem. Then those same authorities told you that everything has been done that can be done, when you know good and well that's the farthest thing from the truth. Then the next thing you discover is that the authorities in question all have something to lose if they were to be genuinely helpful to you. Then it dawns on you, none of these people in positions of power and trust are going to do anything at all, except find a way -- any way -- to get rid of you; to make the public think it's all just one big misunderstanding; that there's no proof of anything wrong, even though it's as plain as day that there is, and has been for a long, long time. What do you do then, after you've gotten on your knees every day for seven years asking God for help? Answer: you hope that, by the grace of God, good people who still walk this earth will say, "yes, I will help you. I am not afraid; I will tell the truth. I will sign the petition. I will speak to local and national politicians. I will call up the newspapers, email television shows, distribute fliers, participate in protests and walks for justice, do research on line, confront those who need to be confronted, pray, and continue every day to pursue justice for a young man and all people who have suffered at the hands of a very powerful, deeply rooted institution. And you'll do it not because you have anything to personally gain. You'll do it because it's just the right thing -- and someday, some how, some way, it will come back to you, in spades. God bless all who are so generously and selflessly helping to find out the truth about what happened to Joshua Guimond. We are so grateful for you and for your help. Stick with us; we are depending on you to get through this. The truth is at hand.

Joshua, sometimes I wonder about all that you would have accomplished by now had your life not been so unfairly interrupted...there are so many who would rather protect their own self interests and live life as a charade, rather than do the right thing. Thank God, though, that there are still people in this world who do believe in truth, compassion and justice. We will keep standing up for you Joshua. And there are others stepping forward to help too. Thank you, to each and every one of you. You are doing the right thing.

Thank you Thank you Thank you!!! *All* help is deeply appreciated!! We are facing formidable opposition in the form of a long standing, deeply rooted, powerful institution -- as well as type of conspiracy of silence by people who either don't care, have a conflict of interest, or who are in great denial in spite of the documented facts. A group of people dedicated to the truth can make a tremendous difference in the world -- and in this case. Again, thank you for signing the petition, and to all who have taken the time to sign it and pass along the link. To those still sitting on the sidelines wondering whether they should share their experiences, I am sincerely urging you to do so now -- now is the time!! Let's recap: Joshua Guimond disappeared without a trace from the campus of St. John's University more than seven years ago. Common sense would dictate that all known sex offenders housed on the campus would be thoroughly interviewed, and further, all staff residing on the campus. Instead, the sheriff searched here, there and anywhere but where common sense would dictate he should look. Why was that?

This is not about money for us, but I KNOW it's about money for the university, and all the people who are getting paid in some way by the university. JUST TELL THE TRUTH PEOPLE!! STOP HIDING, STOP RUNNING FROM THIS!! Just get the truth out there, deal with it, and everyone can move on! BUT NOT UNTIL YOU TELL THE TRUTH.

Please help us to to break through the conspiracy of silence that surrounds the case of missing college student Joshua Guimond. It is going to take many people working independently and together to incorporate victim advocacy groups, publicity and other resources in our effort to get answers about Joshua's disappearance. Your help in the quest for justice for Joshua is deeply appreciated. Remember this: "ALL EVIL NEEDS TO SUCCEED IS FOR GOOD PEOPLE TO DO NOTHING!!!!" Thank you.
