When our daughter started at St. Ben's I remember hearing about Josh. I relate his case to Jacob W's case. At the time I was teaching with a St. Ben's graduate that said she felt as though the monks were related to the cases somehow. There is a site called ''Behind The Pine Curtain'' of interest to both cases. Also I listened to a recent Channel 4, 2004 interview of a person if interest in the Jacob W. case. Very bone chilling comments. This might be worth reviewing. It is possible that the Mayor of St. Joe is also the grounds keeper at St. Ben's. This brother? is a bigger man than the person of interest. I am wondering how they can be the same age. The mayor has a 32 year old son. Hoping the Wetterling case can help clear up other cases. 7/9/10 lulugirl Message #3541   Can I ask why specifically why the information hasn't been released? I'm just wondering because 9 years later and Josh hasn't been found. If there is evidence specifying a perpetrator, why aren't these things released? Why isn't there a lawyer pursuing this? Why 9 years later is evidence hidden? Seems to me that if there is evidence pointing to somebody, and nobody has been prosecuted, then the evidence can't be too conclusive and people should still be looking for clues or somebody to talk. How will Josh be found if potential clues are not made public? I'm not accusing at all, I'm just asking because I feel so for the family and for getting answers to this baffling situation.

7/9/10 lulugirl Message #3539   Nowhere in my message do I defend any of the monks. I agree that no stone should be left unturned. I also agree that the "eaten by turtles" is ridiculous. However, what are you saying? Are you saying that a monk abducted and killed Josh? Is that your theory? What possible motive would there be? The sex abuse scandal was wide open in 2002, it was already all over the media. The monks were already fully exposed as perpetrators, Josh wasn't uncovering anything that wasn't already in the media. What we do know is that Josh was participating in an illegal drinking party, and he had a fake photo ID on his computer, probably created for that person to buy alcohol or go to bars. It seems to me that reports vary on what the students were consuming. You talk about silence, how about the silence on drug and alcohol use at St. John's? Seems to me there is also a conspiracy of silence among the students about the party atmosphere. Students would have a very good reason to be silent about all this, underage drinking and drug use are illegal. Students making pot buys or ecstasy open up a door to the criminal drug community. 90% of all the pot and illegal drugs in Minnesota are handled by a single drug cartel. Do we know anything about how students doing pot or other drug buys opened up the impression that white kids with money attend St. John's? Is this idea any less weird than the Illuminati? Because the party atmosphere on these campuses is well established, and there is far more silence over this than there is about the criminal monks.

With regard to the monks -- sadly, in reading all the information in great detail, one can see several monks whose sexual offenses were not divulged in 2002. Worse -- these offenders were, in fact, known by the abbey, and yet -- their sordid histories were deliberately kept hidden until confronted with solid evidence. Then, and only then, did the abbey acknowledge these offenders and pledge to put them on "supervision." Since it has been documented that several of these monks have longstanding histories of sexual abuse, it is not a far stretch at all to surmise that at least one may have engaged in even more deviant and criminal behavior. This is why, for example, the alibis and whereabouts of each and every monk with a known history (even if it was known only to the abbey and hidden from the public) should have been thoroughly investigated on the night Joshua disapeared. Within a small vicinity in the area surrounding St. John's, three boys were abducted, two have still not been found. What are the odds of that happening? It is painful and awful to have to imagine such things, and yet, if we do not look at the facts with an open and honest heart, we will not be able to see truth. In this case, as in many others related to the abbey, the truth has been spun, hidden, denied and twisted. Something very ugly has happeend within and around the grounds of this campus. There is a wall up that is almost impossible to break through, and yet break through we must -- or else the vat of deception will continue to boil and along with it the longstanding suffering it has caused.

You will see in the 2002 documents extensive coverage of the statute of limitations. Check the Oct. 2002 document especially. The monks forwent the statute in several cases by paying settlements. In other words, the abbey could have fought the abuse allegations by claiming the expired statute, but they didn't. They chose to pay out. That's the real story here. It's saying that the monks admitted the allegations straight out and paid rather than go to court. ... Every single student on campus was affected in 2002 by this scandal at St. John's. It was the prevailing atmosphere. There was no conspiracy THEN, it was all out in the open all over the papers. Each student had to figure out how they felt about it in order to even feel okay going to school at SJU. See the article about the serious image problems the campus had that year. And still has. ... This is why I seriously doubt a monk was involved, though of course no stone can be unturned. Given all the publicity to the scandal, it's unlikely a monk is going to act out in that atmosphere. In addition, monks don't act rashly nor suddenly. Read the Pine Curtain documents. All the abuses took place in relationships developed over long periods of time, where monks deluded themselves they were ''helping,'' or ''caring,'' and the abuse progressed slowly, a step at a time. In no instance was anybody suddenly assaulted by a stranger, the monks had relationships going for a long time before it all went too far. It takes a lot for a celibate religious to act out, including the very long time it takes to rationalize it's okay. ... Also, as a former nun I can tell you that a college student investigating anything poses no threat whatsoever to a religious order. I believe that Josh was doing only what every other Johnnie student was doing that year, following a very public scandal at SJU in the media and on the internet. We knew it would be a fight, but you are absolutely right, when it comes to going up against any power system, be it the Catholic church, the federal government or any other influential group, it takes complete determination. People spend time in jail, they become bankrupt, they write letters and ask for help from politicians, they conduct marches and protests and still -- often times, the wicked win, because they have more power and more money. Each person has to decide, "am I going to take this on or not." This will not be the first time I have gone toe to toe with a monied, influential, corrupt institution. It is exhausting, frustrating and sometimes, it feels hopeless. But I won't let this case be hopeless. We are not going to back down, we want the truth, we want answers, and we want justice. So far, no one who could or should be helping is doing that. But I believe that eventually, someone will care -- someone besides the same group that has been working for years seeking justice. Giving up is not an option. By the grace of God, we're going to uncover what was done to Joshua. And when we find out, the whole world is going to know. They can come clean with what they know now, or later. But the truth will out.

I will never understand how so many people have known what has been going on at St. John's for all these years and yet turned their heads away. 6/27/10 lulugirl Message #3521   I happened upon the site from a link via Behind the Pine Curtain. I looked at the Illinois ID photo, and just did a little Google search. Came up with a Quincy Jones, minor league football player with the Minnesota Lumberjacks and Minnesota Maulers, during the period of 2002-2005. Interestingly, the Lumberjacks showed a game at St. John's on one site. My guess : Quincy was a student at SJU, prep school or in the area. It's a common activity for college kids to create fake photo IDs so they buy alcohol or get into bars. Among college kids these IDs sell for around $50, and to them either making these IDs or selling them is a "normal" college activity. Quincy was probably younger than the birth date in the ID. Just my guess..best to you all.
