I agree, Anonymous, that it is weird that nobody (of whom we are aware, at least) seems to have seen anything strange. But as to whether anyone saw Josh, note a previous post by Aubs: "I believe independent witnesses have been located that establish a time line for Josh exiting the building where he attended the card game and soon afterward crossing onto the main campus without straying into a low-lying area or body of water, as had previously been speculated."

"My heart goes out to the family of Josh. I just can't believe nobody saw Josh on the night he vanished. I went to St. John's as a freshman in the Fall of 1999 and transfered. ... I too frequented the Metten Apts for parties. I often left by myself and walked back to my dorm on main campus. I just can't believe nobody saw anything strange... "

Happy Birthday, Josh! We are going to find you! Is someone actively setting up a new search effort? Please let me know if something is being planned so I can spread the word and help. 6/18/04 Nick Message #2134
It's your 22nd birthday, Josh, your second since you've been gone. I agree with the post below: sometimes it does seem like the only way we'll find you is through our own efforts. But don't worry, we're not giving up.

6/16/04 .. Message #2132
Aubs, Blaine, thank you. It's looking more and more to me like this case will only be solved with direct intervention from Josh's friends and family. I think the police got stuck in one mode of thinking, and still have trouble thinking outside of the box. I also think their resources, while ample, are inadequate to provide the attention necessary to solve this case. It's also clear that St. John's is not interested in putting their money where their mouth is and providing financial assistance in the search for Joshua. Frankly it seems the university doesn't want to be involved at all. Don't give up. Joshua is out there, and he can be found. Likewise Jacob Wetterling. Aubs, your post is very encouraging. Please let people on this board know if there is anything that can be done to help. I believe you can find the answers, and I am praying for all who are dedicated to finding the truth

6/15/04 Aubs Message #2131
Thank you for your encouraging words, Blaine. If it’s any consolation, a handful of friends and concerned persons from Josh’s community are working actively to widen the search, bring in additional resources, and mount a vigorous media campaign later this summer. I believe independent witnesses have been located that establish a time line for Josh exiting the building where he attended the card game and soon afterward crossing onto the main campus without straying into a low-lying area or body of water, as had previously been speculated. So, we’re fairly certain that something unexpected must have happened at or near the main intersection on campus and the adjacent parking lot in front of Josh’s residence hall. This Friday, June 18, is Josh’s 22nd birthday – his second since he was taken from us. At this time, also remember Jacob Wetterling, who was abducted just a few miles from Josh and who remains missing after nearly 15 years.

6/15/04 Blaine Message #2130
So many missing young people have been found - Dru Sjodin, Erika Dalquist, the missing UM student recovered in the Mississippi and the missing UW-Eau Claire student. It's time Josh is found too. I believe it is time for the students and faculty at St John's University and community leaders from Collegeville, St. Cloud and Sterns County to demand action from the administration of SJU. Their lack of support and compassion for the Guimond family and all others desperately trying to find Josh is absolutely unacceptable. I did not know Josh, but life is precious and he deserves every effort to towards locating him. God Bless Josh and may his family and friends find closure in the near future.

6/13/04 .. Message #2129
I still believe St. John's University hasn't done nearly enough to assist the Guimond family in finding their son. I would think long and hard before sending my children there -- it's one thing to have a horrifying scenario like this occur -- it's a whole other thing to watch this university focus more on protecting it's image than provide substantive assistance to Josh's family -- talk about scary

6/12/04 Nick Message #2128
"From today's St. Cloud Times (the rest of the article is in the posts below). ... Lawyers for the Order of St. Benedict and Brian Guimond discussed Friday how much information Guimond can get through subpoenas he's served on St. John's University officials. ... Guimond, father of missing St. John's student Josh Guimond, made numerous requests for information from the school in an attempt to fight the Order's request that he be banned for two years from making unsupervised visits to the campus. Among the information Guimond sought was any and all investigative data on the search for his missing son. "

6/12/04 Nick Message #2127
"School officials told a judge that Guimond has been harassing and threatening students and staff at St. John's. A temporary order preventing Brian Guimond from coming to campus alone remains in place as the Order seeks to extend that by two years. The Order of St. Benedict filed the request on behalf of the St. John's community. ... A telephone conference Friday in the chambers of retired Judge Spencer Sokolowski addressed how much information Guimond could force St. John's to give him. Lawyers for the Order of St. Benedict argued that much of what Guimond wants has nothing to do with the request to extend the restraining order. "

6/12/04 Nick Message #2126
"Josh Guimond has been missing since November 2002, when he walked away from a campus party after telling friends he was going outside to get some fresh air. Stearns County sheriff's deputies have searched buildings and bodies of water at St. John's and have said they believe it's most likely Guimond is in one of the lakes on campus. ... Brian Guimond has been a frequent critic of the sheriff's investigation and St. John's University. He has launched his own investigation into the disappearance of his only son and has been to campus numerous times to search and to question students and staff. ... Some students told school officials they consider Brian Guimond's actions threatening and harassing, prompting the university to seek a court order barring him from visits without an escort."

6/12/04 Nick Message #2125
Thanks, ".." That's a good idea. I was discussing it with a few other people recently, and we'd like to work with others to make such a section. The Guestbook is limited to the extent that it can provide updates, so I think you have an excellent idea.

6/9/04 .. Message #2124
I was wondering how come this website does not have a section for updates, so that people who care about Josh and are following this case can find out the latest information. I think it's important to keep people informed so that interest in Joshua is kept active and ongoing. Also, are any further benefits or other organized activities planned to re-focus attention on Joshua?

6/9/04 .. Message #2123
''"Imagine what might have been if some of the resources poured into the futile water search for Josh had been directed to investigate more plausible alternatives than a pedestrian drowning.'' I know, Kevin. It's like the old ''Elephant in the Room'' story -- many of us could immediately see something more sinister in what happened to Josh -- and yet the sheriff's dept. adamently refused to pursue other directions. I still think the university is an extremely intimidating force. After all, money equals power, and that school has a lot of the green stuff...can anyone really afford to go toe to toe with an institution like that? ... ... "

6/9/04 Kevin Message #2122
On Monday, 12-year-old Brandon Dornbusch and his 14-year-old brother Justin (who gave his life in a brave attempt to rescue his younger brother) drowned in the Chippewa River near Watson, Minn. after venturing onto a spillway and getting trapped in the current. Authorities say the boys were probably in the water for about an hour before their bodies floated to the river's surface downstream. Source: http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/4819160.html ... This tragedy, like other area drownings cited earlier on this message board, just make it so very, very hard to understand why the search for Joshua was concentrated on campus lakes for the better part of a year after Josh's disappearance. In all the drownings reported in local media this year, victims were recovered in hours to just a few days. Imagine what might have been if some of the resources poured into the futile water search for Josh had been directed to investigate more plausible alternatives than a pedestrian drowning.

6/7/04 .. Message #2121
Thanks for your post, Chris. The comment has been made before that the cases of missing males don't seem to receive as much attention...I don't know if that's true or just a perception. But what is true, is that the silence on the Guimond case is often times deafening. I mean, here is an outstanding young man, who was well on his way to making his community proud -- one minute, he's at college pursuing his dreams -- the next minute, he's gone??? His family has had to fight tooth and nail just to keep the authorities' attention on this tragedy. I don't know what's going on with the community ... short of a small group of dedicated souls...there doesn't seem to be much of an outcry for answers ... not much in the way of continued support for the Guimonds. It just seems like the community really doesn't care anymore...wow, that's really sad

6/6/04 Christopher Message #2120
The public has a right to information that does not compromise an investigation. Information should be requested in writing. Citizens may also petition elected officials to request the information on their behalf. The Corvallis Police Dept. provides a good model of community policing. Extracts from the latest daily press release: Teams of officers from a multi-agency law enforcement task force continue to investigate the disappearance of Brooke Wilberger... A sixth individual has been added to the list of persons of interest in this case. Police will continue to follow up on all leads called into the Tip Line, which has received over 1,700 tips... Searches will focus on ... all areas outward from the apartment complex where Brooke disappeared... Domino's Pizza has offered to put Brooke's flyer on the box tops of all of their pizzas in the area... To date, 3,829 acres have been searched... Police ask all people to assess whether the habits or behavior of anyone they know has changed.

6/6/04 .. Message #2119
So this is where we're at--almost a year ago Stearns Cnty Sheriff said they had new developments to pursue--but so far we've heard nothing. No further searches have been planned. Mr. Guimond is banned from SJU for the time being rendering him unable to pursue any clues that might be there. Thank God Patty Wetterling is running for office, I pray she wins. What else can be done to help find Joshua? Or is another year going to pass with no answers being found -- as Joshua's plight slowly fades from the public eye...if Erika Dalquist could be found...so can Josh...how do people vanish into thin air

6/5/04 .. Message #2118
Thanks for the update, Aubs. Anytime Josh and all others who have gone missing are remembered in prayer, it's a good thing. I wonder if our society has always been so violent -- and it seems the crimes are getting more perverse in nature. What has happened to cause such a deterioration of morals and values in our society, I wonder. It seems like the value of another human being's life is inconsequential to a certain percentage of the population. It is a mindset that is impossible to understand by a sane and compassionate person. If anyone who is reading this board knows anything at all about what happened to Josh ... isn't it time to talk about it? How many more years must pass before we can know the truth. Please think about it

6/4/04 Aubs Message #2117
The Associated Press reports that at Erika Dalquist's funeral today, Pastor Kathryn Ingbritsen requested prayers for the family of Dru Sjodin and for other Minnesotans who have disappeared and have not been found, including Josh Guimond, Leanna Warner, and Jacob Wetterling. Referring to William Myears, charged with murdering Erika, Ingbritsen said, "We wonder how a heart can hold such evil and act so sinfully..." Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty was in attendance, as were members of Dru's family.

6/2/04 Marie Message #2116
"Kevin, good comment about if all these others are found then why the heck would of Josh not been found yet. The answer is because someone on that campus did something with Josh and knows exactly where they put him also. Hopefully our family will be able to get another search together of the campus soon. ... Marie-cousin"

St. Cloud State University student Arthur Colberg, 20, who drowned just after 3 pm Monday when his canoe capsized in a windstorm about 100 yards from shore in 26-28 feet of water on Silver Lake, near Monticello, was recovered at about 2:15 pm Tuesday by the Wright County Sheriff's Dive Team. This tragedy, once again, demonstrates the implausibility of speculations that Josh, who remains missing after more than a year and a half, drowned in 10-12 feet of water in a slough 20-30 yards wide while walking on campus. In a post on this board dated 5/1/04 9:11:45 pm, someone pointed out that UW-L student Jared Dion, who drowned in a swift-flowing, 18-ft.-deep section of the Mississippi in April, was recovered in 5 days; and that 9-year-old Brian Jacobson, who drowned in Le Sueur County after jumping from a boat 75 yards from shore, was recovered in just 4 hours. What possible explanation could there be that no one – not even the #1 water search team in the nation – is able to find Josh?

6/1/04 .. Message #2114
Thank you for the information, Webmaster. It feels so discouraging at times ... and yet, with some cases being solved recently, I know there is hope. I know Joshua would never have given up looking for people he cared about -- Joshua is a person of high aspirations, tenacity and integrity -- a rarity, really ... he has accomplished so much in his young life, and deserves the chance to fulfill his highest dreams ... let us not leave him when he needs us the most ...

5/31/04 Webmaster@findjoshua.com Message #2113
Chris asked about the hits for www.findjoshua.com. Since January 1, 2004 there have been 1314533 hits against this site. (Yes well over a million). Hits tend to be a little deceiving. I usually pay more attention to the number of unique visitors. There have been just over 50000 visitors for this same period. As mentioned in a previous post, hits per day vary but they increase greatly when something is covered in other media sources. That is why it is important for us to do things that help keep Joshua in the news. This also helps keep pressure on the authorities that must act to help bring this to a close. Searches, fundraisers, prayer services, and other peaceful gatherings help give something for the news media to cover. My suggestion would be to plan one! I'll be there...

"...the public won't forget, and this is a really, really inconvenient time for the public to be reminded to ask those niggling questions" Anonymous is right!! Election time is coming soon, isn't it? Time for folks who care about Josh to start demanding answers! After all, aren't these politicians hired to serve the needs of the public? Well, one of the needs the local constituency has is to find out what happened to one of its brightest and most promising citizens -- what happened to a young man who was sent to college to receive a good education -- and instead wound up mysteriously disappearing -- it's time for real attention to be paid to this case! Johsua's life counts! It's time for people who have the power and clout to get to the bottom of this tragedy

.. Sounds like a job for "Congress Man" - He knows the place, doesn't he? Spent a few year there himself, or so I heard. Rest assured, .., the public won't forget, and this is a really, really inconvenient time for the public to be reminded to ask those niggling questions. I don't know if it's true that our public servants charged with pursuing these matters are reluctant to follow the clues - my confidence would be badly shaken if such were revealed - but one person has the power to place plausible evidence of any such alleged wrongdoing - errors of commission and omission - squarely under Federal scrutiny: Congress Man.

5/31/04 .. Message #2110
Very impressive response on the part of the community and law enforcement in Brooke's case. I'm still troubled by St. John University's "hands off" attitude with regard to Josh's case at this point. Seems the university washed its hands of Josh as soon as they could. They like to say "see, we allowed these searches but Josh is gone and there's nothing we can do about it." That's pretty sad. The university could have offered financial assistance to the family to help with the search. They surely could be doing a whole lot more in the way of publicity -- but they won't, because the school's image comes first. What St. John's fails to realize is that by hoping the public will forget about this case, it has only served to make people further question the school's lack of interest in resolving this case. Strange, disconcerting, disappointing and troubling. Does it seem the Sheriff's dept. seem unwilling to pursue clues that may lead inside the walls of St. John's?...

5/30/04 Chris Message #2109
I agree, a real opportunity was lost early on with the narrow focus on the "drowning" and "disoriented and got lost" theories, but that the focus has now shifted in more productive directions. But authorities must reach out to the public. In its first 5 days, Brooke Wilberger’s website recorded more than 60,000 hits. Webmaster, do you have the tally for Josh? Regarding the search for Brooke, officials announced today that more than 1200 community volunteers participated in the first 6 days, searching more than 1800 acres. Most of the 140 registered sex offenders in Benton County (OR) have been interviewed and investigators have started the process with Linn County’s more than 550 offenders. More than 1000 tips have been received and authorities have identified persons of interest and "significant" interest. Police are contacting new individuals as they are identified and recontacting individuals as new information is received. A tipline email address has now been established. Wow!

5/30/04 .. Message #2108
Christopher, your point is well taken. The sheriff's dept. chose to adhere to the theory that Josh had accidentally drowned in Stumpf Lake or one of the other lakes on campus. Or that due to his intoxicated state he became disoriented and got lost. Of course none of these theories made a lick of sense to the people closest to Josh. People felt frustated because the sheriff's dept. did not seem interested in considering other possibilities in the beginning. After all the extensive searches though, I think the authorities finally realize Josh did not disappear through any fault of his own. His father always said someone somehow got hold of him...and I think he's right. I hope valuable time wasn't wasted in the early ensuing months of Josh's disappearance by not considering abduction as a real possibility

5/30/04 Christopher Message #2107
"Here’s a model of how to solve cases such as Josh’s, utilizing the eyes, ears, and resources of the public: Within hours after Brooke Wilberger was reported missing from an apartment across the street from Oregon State University, Corvallis Police Capt. Bob Deutsch publicly announced that police believed Brooke was abducted. ''We don't have someone who would walk off,'' he said. ''We have a very responsible young girl.'' The next day, police stated that Brooke’s disappearance was being treated as an abduction and a major crime investigation, and set up a tip line. Next, police put a 'Newsflash' banner at the top of their home page, appealing for the public’s help in locating Brooke, with links to detailed updates several times daily on progress in the investigation. Link to Updates: http://www.ci.corvallis.or.us ... Link to view level of detail provided to the public: http://www.ci.corvallis.or.us/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=1245&Itemid= ... ... This heinous crime will be solved! ... "

Matt, I think it sounds like progress is definitely being made!! I want to thank all the people who have been using their brain power, plus all those who have been praying for justice for Joshua. To me, each and every one of you are heroes. The sound you hear echoing across cyberspace is me, applauding the efforts of every person who has taken the initiative to make things happen in this case. Between the combined efforts of law enforcement and the public, I know Josh's case can be solved! Keep up the fantastic work everyone!! God bless you all

5/28/04 Matt Message #2105
"Has a new search for Joshua been organized?" Not a large-scale physical search, but more of an investigation drawing from resources across the country, modeled on the successful search by private citizens for Erika Dalquist. Any physical searches (not imminent at this stage), will be theory driven and based on information being developed regarding a short list of persons of interest. In order not to compromise the investigation or alert possible suspects, specific information cannot be revealed at this time. What would be most helpful at this time is for any males who have ever been approached in a sexual manner or assaulted in the Collegeville-St. Joseph area by an adult man, and who never reported it to police, to email the information to Info@FindJoshua.com - even if it happened decades ago. Please also report if you have been the victim of harassing phone calls of a lewd or sexually suggestive nature, or if you have information about anyone who victimized someone in this way.

5/28/04 .. Message #2104
Has a new search for Joshua been organized? I admire the way the families of the other people who disappeared worked together to find their children. I hope they will reach out to the Guimond family and help them too. Joshua, your life was not in vain, it counts, you count, and we will find you

"Please keep in your prayers Brooke Wilberger, 19, abducted May 24, 2004, outside an apartment complex across the street from Oregon State University in Corvallis. Brooke now has a website: < http://www.findbrooke.com >. The site includes a description of Brooke, the tipline number, and photos of Brooke. The circumstances surrounding Brooke's disapearance are not that different from Josh's: Student vanishes without trace while going about their daily business, with no motive for disappearing voluntarily. The tipline for Josh is (320) 251-4240, or email Josh's family at Info@FindJoshua.com ... Additional Photos ... "

Earlier this week the was a gathering at the State Capital held by the Missing Childrens Organization of Minnesota. The media, state officals, and the govenor were invited. Not any of these people showed up. The message this sends to me is that this really wasn't important to any of them. They talk the talk but do not follow through. Evidently this issue is not going to gain them anything or further their political adgenda. Everyone should be outraged by this lack of interest. Hopefully if Patty Wetterling is elected she can make a difference.

Thank you for sharing that article, Aubs. I think it's one of those "it could never happen to me" types of things -- I'm sure Josh never expected that he would encounter any trouble while walking back to his dorm, especially being tall and a male ... but danger comes calling in many different disguises...and I'm afraid it came to Josh in the form of someone he figured he could trust...who knows...perhaps even someone he knew...or thought he knew

Corvallis (OR) Gazette-Times, 5/26/04: "The abductions or disappearances of young college students, especially women, capture the attention of the media and frequently the nation...Each disappearance is another reminder to young women that they have to be alert and careful at all times." [Josh’s disappearance underscores the fact that men, too, are at risk.] "The abduction of [Dru Sjodin]...was sudden, and the end brutal." ... "Just yesterday, the body of a 20-year-old Julliard School student missing for a week was found in a New York City park. Sarah Fox had been missing since the day she went out for a jog and didn't return. Less than 24 hours after Brooke Wilberger was reported missing [May 25] ... Oregon State Police and the Department of Public Safety sent out a security alert to the campus community ...warning... about potential danger. 'Cases such as this should remind everyone of the importance of taking personal safety precautions in their everyday lives,' the statement read."

Fantastic letter!! Very inspiring, very encouraging. I hope the community rises to the occasion and supports one of its own. That's what it's going to take -- a lot of prayers, and a lot of people working together to finally get to the bottom of Josh's disappearance. Thank you for sharing this letter, Nick. It's heartening to know that people still care -- and are willing to step up to the plate and do something. God bless you, Joshua, we have not forgotten you, and someday, with God's help, we will find you

"From today's St. Cloud Times. Letter: Community must find Guimond ... By Janet Jahr ... St. Cloud ... What can we do as a community to help Josh Guimond's family search for him? ... Will there be another all-out search in which volunteers are sought? We need to hear about it. We need to show up. We need to get our hands dirty. We need to walk creek beds, drainage ditches and the like. How will search dogs be used again? Can there be a Josh Guimond prayer date and time? God knows Joshua's whereabouts and there is power in prayer. Can you imagine the blessings if many of us pray together for the same thing at the same time? What can we do to help? We need to get involved. What if it was your child? Let's act like he is. Let's find Josh."

Joshua was supposed to have graduated now, and be on his way to law school. His parents and family would have had a big celebration to honor his achievement. He would have been smiling and enjoying his accomplishments with all the people he loved. He had big things planned for his life, and I have no doubt he would have achieved them. Instead, he is just plain gone. If the other missing souls could be found, so can Joshua. In honor of him, we must do everything possible to find him. You know he would have done it for any one of his family members and friends. God bless you, Joshua, wherever you are...

The good news is, there are people "out there" being monitored...and if conscience doesn't catch up with them, someday justice will
