4/16/05 -- Message #2465
Tom, would I be on track if I were to ponder the theory that a certain deviant sect may be tangled in this case. On a separate note, there is a solid reason for remaining anonymous on this board -- it's called personal safety

"A True Friend ... Friendship can be as simple as a smile, ... or just a friendly ear to listen for a while. ... An outstretched hand, ... a friendly tight squeeze, ... even a friendly tease. ... Sometimes friends appear out of nowhere, ... ready to laugh and share. ... A kind word from a friend makes you strong, ... you hope to have friends like this your whole life long. ... When you’re lost in a fog of confusion and despair, ... a friend can come out of nowhere. ... A gentle hug or just a warm smile, ... can make your pain vanish for a while. ... Maybe saying something as simple as have a nice day, ... is all you need to say. ... Sometimes with just a little spark, ... a new friendship can start. ... You opened my eyes and helped me see, ... I have a new friend who is very precious to me. ... Hope you come home soon Love ya!"

"As a Benedictine monk, Patrick Wall cleaned up and covered up the sins of priests -- pastors who were quietly transferred when their sexual and financial trespasses threatened to ignite public scandal." Now check out the person in this sketch (http://myexperiments.homestead.com/untitled6.html), described as follows in 1989, shortly after the Jacob Wetterling kidnapping: "Caucasian male, balding gray hair, 50 to 55 years of age [65-70 today], height 5'10'' to 6'0'', weight 185 to 210 pounds." So, "Was a subpoena duces tecum exercised at the Southdown outfit in Canada?" Thank you.

"The elevator reaches the 12th-story Manly & McGuire offices. Manly and Wall split up, entering their respective offices. Whereas Manly occupies the corner office, Wall’s space consists of a chair, a counter, a beautiful view overlooking verdant bean fields, and stacks and stacks of paper—evidence pertaining to various sexual-abuse cases, binders bursting with personal histories of suspected child-molesting priests, and drawers with even more papers and archives pertaining to lawsuits."

There... The info@findjoshua.com should no longer send a bounce message. There are several family members that get copied when you send a message to that address. I'm working on getting an updated address for the one person that was causing the invalid address error. In the mean time, please continue to use that address as your messages are still getting to Joshua's family!

Joshua's Dad: If you meet with Stumbler, one thing he might look into is the name Monduel or Montduel -- Jake or Jacob G. Does Indiana Highway Patrol or Indiana State Police mean anything? How about October 1984? And there's something about a motorcycle and a newspaper clipping.

Is there a way to read through these messages easier than End-left click, End-left click etc? I'm doubtful about the authorities. Will the death of the Pope soften up the Benedictines for us? How about on p.75 the Sheriff's office said they were "ecstatic."(May 10,04) What was that about? I'm interested in meeting Jim Rothstein. Does he ever come to Minnesota?

"anonymous: There could be information relevant to a person or persons allegedly involved in Josh’s disappearance that I’m unaware of; so, if your information is correct, you need to report it immediately to the Stearns County Sheriff's Department at (320) 251-4240. ... Last year, the sheriff made a personal appeal to men who were boys aged 10 to 15 and living in or near St. Joseph or Cold Spring in the late 1980s and early 1990s to contact him if they were ever approached in a sexual manner by an adult man but never reported it to the police. By the same token, any past or present male students who have been approached in a sexual manner, abused, or stalked -- on- or off-campus -- by an adult male and never reported it to police, should immediately contact the sheriff at the above number. This could be the final piece of testimony needed for a circumstantial prosecution in the disappearance of Josh and/or Jacob Wetterling. ... "

"My dear cousin Joshua. My Uncle Tom is loosing a struggling battle of renal cancer as we speek. I was recently in Minnesota to say good bye to him for the last time as he is being taken care of by Hospice. Saying good bye to someone for the last time and then having to leave knowing that is it the hardest thing I have ever done. But next to that is the thought of never have found my cousin. My Uncle Tom told me as I was saying good bye, was to keep looking for my cousin Joshua because he is out there, he does not feel like it is his time and that we must find him. So my message to the one or more persons that do know what happened to my cousin is to please confess somehow because you danm well must not know how it feels to loose someone is who is so loved. ...   ''"Regarding Josh not taking his coat when the temperature was near freezing, the logical inference is that he did not plan any detours. It's barely a 5-minute walk from the card game at Metten back to his room in Maur.'' Do you feel then, that Joshua was forced to make a detour from his planned route back to his dorm? And, since this campus seems to be rather isolated -- who would be lurking about -- if not someone specifically stalking Joshua -- then who -- someone prepared for a random assault? Do you feel Joshua was just in the wrong place at the wrong time? ... ... "

1/20/05 Aubs Message #2432
IMHO there's no substance to the so-called "stalker" speculation; this particular individual is not of any particular interest. Re SBH Auditorium: It's across the road from the library, adjacent to the Quad. It's not an area Josh would have passed on his way from the card game back to his room. I don't know if investigators are aware of this incident, but I assume they must be. It did not require any investigative expertise to discover this information, so I have to assume the appropriate authorities are aware of and have looked into this incident. Regarding Josh not taking his coat when the temperature was near freezing, the logical inference is that he did not plan any detours. It's barely a 5-minute walk from the card game at Metten back to his room in Maur.

"Anonymous on 1/18 mentions about a ''stalker''--wasn't there some info on this site a while back about a St. Johns professor stalking students on campus?? ... Was it an English professor? Has this been looked into?"

1/18/05 Anonymous Message #2430
" Earlier the night Josh disappeared another student was approached near the Stephen B. Humphrey Auditorium by someone in a late-model SUV with Nebraska plates, who struck up a conversation with the student. ... Question: Forgive my lack of familiarity with the campus and surrounding area -- where is this auditorium located? Second, I am assuming a description of the person who stopped the other student was given to the sheriff and nothing became it. But -- I guess there's some merit to a theory that this same individual may have been stalking students -- though, I still don't understand why Josh would've have gone walking that night without a warm coat ... ?"

1/17/05 Aubs Message #2429
There's nothing within walking distance of campus -- only other campus buildings and an interstate highway. The nearest town (St. Joseph, where Jacob Wetterling was abducted) is about 5 miles away. Most students would give directions or render assistance to someone approaching them at night on campus asking for help. Who wouldn't? Earlier the night Josh disappeared another student was approached near the Stephen B. Humphrey Auditorium by someone in a late-model SUV with Nebraska plates, who struck up a conversation with the student.

1/17/05 -- Message #2428
Apparently it was cold out that night and Joshua was not wearing a coat -- nor did he have his glasses with him...knowing he had a car available to him, what would cause him to just go walking to an unknown destination?

1/17/05 -- Message #2427
Had Joshua ever before left the campus late at night to walk somewhere alone? I understood the campus to be secluded -- and far from commercial establishments

1/17/05 -- Message #2426
Thank you, Aubs, for the information. Operating on the theory that Joshua for whatever reason decided to go somewhere other than back to his dorm -- is he the kind of person who would stop and talk to a stranger if beckoned? Of course someone with bad intent could have motioned him to ask for directions...but what are the odds of that, really?

1/16/05 Aubs Message #2425
Josh never made it back to his room. He needed a computerized key card to gain entry; however, according to a source there is no electronic record of his entering his apartment. According to other sources, one eyewitness report has a person matching Josh's description leaving Metten Court and passing Seton Apartments. Another report has a person fitting Josh's description crossing the causeway onto campus at the four-way intersection. At this point Josh would have had to cross a parking lot and a poorly lit area adjacent to the tennis court to reach his room. Instead, he vanished into thin air.

1/16/05 Kris Message #2424
One scenario can be that Josh got to his room and found someone inside, going through his things or stealing money from him and he surprised this person who in a panic hit him and killed him. What happened next could be various ways, he was led out the room and hidden on the area or being taken away from there or it could be that Josh was gay and had planned to meet someone to date, this date went awry and something happened, I hope someday the truth will come out. Good luck and I will pray for Josh. xxKris from Belgium

Since the family does not like this forum to be used for indepth examination as to what may have happened -- could an alternative site be set up for this purpose? Crime and Justice has a forum for discussing college age disappearances, but the particpation has been meager.

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2421
I'm sure friends working to solve what happened to Joshua have their own ideas -- since I was not there, I cannot even surmise as to whether anyone had a grudge against Joshua for any reason -- whether he may have been despondent and hid his despondency well from his friends or whether they just couldn't fathom it -- or, whether there was anyone in the campus community who may have been a threat to him. These are insights only those closest to Joshua have -- and a valuable advantage in pursuing particular theories.

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2420
To continue examining all the possible angles, is there any hope that records of potential suspects within the campus community have been examined by a PI to determine whether anyone there suddenly left for treatment/vacation/sabbatical shortly after Joshua's disappearance? It does bother me still that the police/searchers were not permitted to enter the abbey for a full search right away. Shame on the "campus life safety" people or whoever made this foolish decision. That area could have been "cleared" immediately, instead of lingering as an unanswered question as to whether there was "something to hide"

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2419
The "authorities" have implored the community to come forward with any information about sexual assaults, pedophiles -- hoping to find leads in the Wetterling case -- to my knowledge nothing substantive has resulted in conjunction with either investigation.

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2418
If Joshua had been abducted, and someone saw it, I can't believe no one would have come forward by this time, even if they felt fearful about it. If someone had been stalking Joshua, that person still took the risk of being seen in Joshua's company

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2417
Most college campuses have at least some students milling around even late at night. It's hard to conceive that at least one person would not have seen or heard something if a tall, strong guy like Joshua was being abducted. Or, alternatively, even if he was walking away with someone he knew and trusted.

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2416
Having said that, I was not there when Joshua disappeared so I cannot know how intoxicated he actually was -- the accounts seem to vary. How clear minded was he? Is it possible he could've decided to take a walk to clear his mind and wound up getting injured/killed accidentally? I know he said he was going back to his dorm, but what if something was bothering him?

1/13/05 Anonymous Message #2415
Aubs and Nick, you both know I'm playing "devil's advocate" here. I'm sure you've read about the series of cases of young college age men drowning in rivers. Even in my most intoxicated moments, I was never so out of it to walk or fall into a river. Somehow at least a dozen college guys in the midwest have done this. So it's not totally outside of the realm of possibility that it could have happened to Josh (more)

1/13/05 Aubs Message #2414
Q: "What if Josh somehow wound up in a lake and sunk into the mud at the bottom of that lake?" A: (1) Trident would still have been able to detect the anomaly. They're aware of the conditions at the bottom of the lake and confident that their state-of-the art technology is up to the task. (2) Postmortem chemical processes permit a human body to float close to half its own weight. Someone with Josh's body mass would have to be anchored down with about 100 pounds of counterweight to remain at the bottom of the lake.

1/12/05 Nick Message #2413
Anonymous -- I agree that we must weigh possibilities. But falling into a lake seems to be very improbable. As you noted, the Trident Foundation did exhaustively search the lakes. But even leaving that aside, the chances of Josh just wandering into a lake are extremely remote. Why would a very smart young man randomly fall into a lake that was well off the path to his apartment? I think that he would not. The only real possibility of him being in a lake, in my opinion, is if it was the result of foul play.
