8/2/05 -- Message #2619
I think we do know -- and have known, from the very start. I don't think there is such a thing as the perfect crime, though -- and -- sooner or later, as the flame is turned up high, someone's gonna talk. Being patient has been hard, but then again, I've got all the time in the world. Joshua, we won't stop -- ever

bmw and double dash this cover up goes so deep most people could not come close to fathom who and what is involved

8/2/05 -- Message #2615
BMW - how confident do you feel that someday justice in this case will be realized?

8/2/05 BMW Message #2614
Well yes -- Some of the "many coincidences" we referred to earlier involve other jurisdictions, so it's safe to assume this is a broad investigation.

8/1/05 -- Message #2613
Could it be that certain people in a position to do so are investigating this case, separate from the local sheriff's department....methinks there are some who know (and are willing to admit) that foul play was involved

8/1/05 Aubs Message #2612
~ : Texas EquuSearch assisted in the search for 19-year-old Russell Turcotte, who disappeared on July 12, 2002 while hitchhiking from Brainerd up to Highway 2 and on to Grand Forks. He was last seen in the Mini-Mart at Gateway Drive and Highway 2 in Grand Forks. His body was discovered on November 5, 2002, approximately 1/2 mile north of Highway 2 near Penn, North Dakota. He had been beaten to death. As for requesting EquuSearch to aid in the search for Josh, it’s a nonstarter. Law enforcement authorities will first have to acknowledge publicly that Josh’s disappearance involved foul play.

8/1/05 ~ Message #2611
Just a thought, has any one contacted Equusearch, a Dickinson, Texas-based volunteer group that specializes in searches. They may be able to help.

7/31/05 BMW Message #2609
He's not. That's how it's all going to come together when when the investigation is complete. A strong circumstantial case. It will get to the point where no sane jury member will be able to reach a conclusion other than the right one. Too many coincidences.

7/31/05 -- Message #2608
As long as said suspect is duly incarcerated. Why do I think Joshua is not the only one...

7/31/05 BMW Message #2607
Well, at least the end of his "productive" years. No need for Level 3 designation.

7/30/05 -- Message #2606
In other words, because the suspect is older, and the trial may take a while, by the time a conviction is made the suspect will be nearing the end of his earthly days...correct, BMW? But I wonder, what will it take for the law to be applied fairly in this case...

7/30/05 BMW Message #2605
The length of the sentence is somewhat of a nonstarter. Considering the likely duration of the prosecution and trial and keeping in mind the age factor, a simple perjury or obstruction of justice conviction will pretty much put him to bed.

7/30/05 Anonymous Message #2604
Hey "suspect" I hope your reading these post's because if you are your and idiot. The longer you hide Josh and your-self the longer your punishment is going to be.

7/30/05 -- Message #2603
Hey "suspect" -- feel the heat? we're gonna smoke you out -- are you feeling the burn yet? You will.

7/30/05 Aubs Message #2602
-- : Coincidentally Tim Miller of the Texas EquuSearch Mounted Search and Recovery Team, whose daughter Laura was abducted and murdered in 1984, is in Aruba right now with ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to assist in the search for missing Alabama student Natalee Holloway. Regarding Josh, unfortunately there’s no credible evidence that he got lost on the way to his dorm and sank into the mud on campus, despite speculation to this effect reported in the media and attributed to the local sheriff. I don’t know why the sheriff would say something as implausible as that, but perhaps it’s to avoid tipping off the suspect. But realistically, this is simply counterproductive, because (1) it discourages members of the public from coming forward with information (I’ve spoken with some of them) and (2) the suspect is no idiot and already knows the noose is tightening around him (though probably hanging on to the belief that members of the public will continue to be deterred in reporting what they know).

7/29/05 -- Message #2601
Frankly, I think every office of authority involved should be called out to justify their handling of this case. If they truly believe Joshua succombed to some kind of quick sand around there, then one would think procuring and using the proper technology (GPR) to search for him would have been done by now. It is patently unfair that police investigators will employ this kind of high tech search for some cases but not others. After all, is it not the sheriff's department that is claiming Josh probably sunk into the muddy depths on that college campus? This is no way to treat ANY missing person, much less an innocent college student whose family has been suffering hell on earth since his disappearance. Something stinks...and it's not the mud.

Kelly Jolkowski, mother of Jason Jolkowski who disappeared in Omaha on June 13, 2001 at the age of 19, is launching a Weblog. Visit her blog at http://wwwprojectjason.blogspot.com. One of Kelly’s issues is the lack of media coverage for missing adult men.

Josh -- it has been almost 3 years. Hopefully we will not need to see that day. I know you are out there and I wish they would do more. It is so frustrating to sit here and wait, when not enough is being done. I wish I could do something. God speed Josh and I think of you everyday.

7/26/05 -- Message #2598
Somehow I knew you would still be there -- thank God. I'm still watching too -- justice must prevail. Joshua, we will not stop until truth is found.

7/26/05 BMW Message #2597
Greetings --. I'm always out there, watching and listening and learning. The wheels of justice grind slowly. Remain at your post. The time is near, but not yet now. A revelation is at hand.

7/26/05 -- Message #2596
"BMW" -- are you still out there? How do we bring pressure to bear in a case like this? There are so many walls. How does one scale them?

"Happy 23rd Birthday Josh. I can only imagine what you would of been in life if you could of just had a chance. No one has forgotten about you or even thought of giving up. Like someone else mentioned everything goes in a circle and one day the burden of your whereabouts will be so strong that person(s) will have to come forth. My dad, your uncle, passed away on May 16th and that was so hard. Although each day that goes on without knowing answers is even harder. Last week was hard for me because it was my dad's birthday and yours. It just made me hold onto my own children and husband even tighter and wish for nothing bad to ever happen again. We love you and think about you everyday. ... Marie"

6/19/05 Aubs Message #2590
Thinking of you on Fathers' Day, Josh's Dad. You hang in there too. The wheels grind slowly, but surely some revelation is at hand; and soon that rough beast's hour will come round at last.

6/19/05 Rick Message #2589
Hopefully by your next birthday the truth will be known. To give up is not an option, to forget is impossible. Someone out there knows the truth and the burden will only get worse with time.

6/19/05 -- Message #2588
Joshua, I'll never give up looking for you -- you know that. And to anyone reading this who thinks they've gotten away with something -- think again. Everything comes full circle, it's just a matter of time.

It has been almost one year since Cortney Fry was missing and left behind a little 2 wk old baby. She was found in January 2005 and no one has not yet been charged with her death. It just does not make sense. SHe was only 18 years old and her life was just to begin with her daughter. I do not think they (law enforcement) do enough for the missing. My heart aches for the families. Please keep your faith and I hope your boy is found soon. God Bless.

6/17/05 Mom Message #2584
Josh, Tomorrow is your 23rd birthday. The last time I saw you on your birthday you were 20. I wish we could solve whatever has happened to you. As each day goes I wonder if there will ever be an end to this. I miss you so much and wish we would find you safe. I don't believe you ran away and I never will. Happy Birthday, I love you very much. Mom

"This case is unrelated to Josh and Jacob, but it offers good insight into how prolific these offenders are and how they gain the trust of victims: ... Man suspected of molesting ... thousands of children... ... Codes for sex acts, 36,000 names ... allegedly found in suspect’s log... ... San Jose police described 63-year-old Dean Arthur Schwartzmiller as ''one of the most active child molesters we’ve ever seen.''... ... Schwartzmiller was being held without bail on one count of aggravated sexual assault on a child and six counts of lewd and lascivious conduct on a child, with each count alleging multiple victims... ... Authorities said Schwartzmiller apparently gained the trust of victims and parents by working as a home renovation contractor... ... San Jose police got involved after Schwartzmiller allegedly befriended at least two boys in the city with gifts, invited them to his house for video games and movies, and molested them... ... Full story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8247899/ ... This case highlights why it is important for all male students on campus who were subjected to unwanted sexual advances by a trusted older male around the time of Josh's disappearance in fall 2002 (and before) come forward and report the incident. Thanks to those who already have."

I am a 2003 grad from St. John's. I never knew Joshua, but I sure heard a lot about him after his disapperance. I'm sitting here at Ft. Riley, KS in the Army and just randomly thought about Joshua missing, and then found this web site. I hope one day you have your son back. Your letters will one day be answered-- Keep hope alive!

yes that is a good example of st johns and the sheriff doing nothing to solve the question what happened to josh i have been told they are doing everything they can obviuosly not

5/27/05 Aubs Message #2579
"... use ground penetrating radar to search every square inch of St. John's campus to look for Josh." The sheriff or the university could request the assistance of the U.S. Army Reserve's 367th Engineer Battalion, headquartered in St. Cloud and recently back from Afghanistan, where they excelled in the detection of land mines. Their metal-detecting equipment can detect objects such as keys, a watch, or coins. Their sonar-based equipment can detect skeletal remains, which unfortunately is what we'd be looking for, based on the sheriff's repeated statements that Josh "could have walked into a heavily swampy area and sunk into the mud." I find it beyond comprehension that the authorities have not yet fenced off this life-threatening danger zone on campus or posted warning signs to keep other students out of these hazardous areas -- if, in fact, they exist. (But surely the sheriff wouldn't lie about something like that.)

5/26/05 -- Message #2578
What do I have to do to get national attention for Joshua's plight? Walk in front of the White House with a sign asking for help? We can put a man on the moon, but we can't use ground penetrating radar to search every square inch of St. John's campus to look for Josh? At least we could rule out that notion for good. I'm disgusted. Why do some cases receive an incredible amount of attention while others do not? It is simply unfair and inexcusable. I know a lot was done initially to search for Josh...but...as someone here has previously mentioned, why hasn't this case been investigated as being a possible crime...?

"Missing Teen Gets National Attention ... Veronica Frear found it painful to tell her family's story on national television -- and it hurts to watch -- but she says, it had to be done. ... ''When you're in this situation you have to do everything you can possibly do and leave no stone unturned, and this was a way to get him out there on a national level.'' said Frear. ... Frear's son, Craig, vanished 11 months ago tomorrow at the age of 17. ... He was last seen leaving a Scotia apartment complex near his home, and his loved ones have been searching for him ever since. When contacted by the Montel Williams Show -- the Frears couldn't pass up the chance for some national exposure -- and the possibility that their nightmare could come to an end. ''Honestly we don't even know what it's like to be happy anymore,'' said Frear. ... You might see Craig Frear's story on national TV again. Montel Williams asked Veronica if she would be interested in coming back on the show with psychic Sylvia Browne. Frear says she will consider going back if there's any chance it could generate some tips that would lead police to her son. She pleads for anyone with any information to come forward. ''We love our son - he has family and friends here who love him to death and we are suffering terrible. We cannot go on with our lives until somebody calls,'' said Frear. Despite the odds -- Veronica Frear still believes her son is alive -- and it's time for him to come home. ''That's the only thing I have left is hope and prayers. Until they tell me something different I have to have hope, and I have to look for him ... "

Does this story ever sound familiar...darn it, people don't just vanish into thin air.

5/25/05 Anonymous Message #2575
"It's been nearly a year since 17-year-old Craig Frear walked out of a friend's home in Scotia and disappeared. ... Now the search for the teenager is hitting the national spotlight.Frear -- an honor student, athlete and popular kid -- disappeared in broad day light and no one has the slightest reason why. ... ''We can't seem to find an answer. We've turned every stone. We're frustrated. We're devastated. We're destroyed,'' said his mother, Veronica Frear, describing what her husband and two other children have been through since June 27, 2004.On that day at around 2 p.m. Craig Frear was leaving a friend's house at Cambridge Manor Apartments in Scotia. His friend’s mother says she saw him walking down a path that leads to acres of wooded area. He has never been seen or heard from again.Police combed the wooded area.More than 300 parents who knew the Scotia-Glenville High School soccer star searched the woods and an area behind Craig Frear's house along with dogs and search and rescue teams. His picture has been posted on state and national missing children's websites. There has not been a trace of the teen. No one has come up with a single scrap of information, nor a motive for his apparent vanishing into thin air.''Craig had never mentioned anything to anybody that he was upset, despondent, that he wanted to get away. He never mentioned anything to anyone,'' Scotia Police Officer Martin Bailey said.Forensic experts checked his computer and the computers of his friends for instant messages that would give clues. There was nothing and no indication that drugs or alcohol might play a part. ... Now thanks to Val-Pak, Craig Frear's picture will be seen inside the mailboxes of 87 million homes all across America. That has sparked some hope.''So the Val-Pak is going nationwide in the hope that somebody will step forward that might have something that will give us some clue or something as to where we can find our son and what has happened,'' Veronica Frear said. The Val- Paks start getting mailed next week. This week Craig Frear’s picture will be shown on Court TV and the Montel William's Show. ... Craig Frear would be graduating from high school this June ... "

5/25/05 Aubs Message #2574
"I do not believe the cases are linked, but that's just my personal opinion, based on partial information. What is virtually beyond dispute is that Mary was acquainted with her killer. The key to solving the Reker double murder is to examine every person with a prior or subsequent record of sexual offending whom Mary and Susanne may have encountered the day they died. Here are the known possibilities in the public record: (1) A worker in the Zayre grocery section, who was convicted two years later for stabbing a St. Cloud girl. (2) Another grocery worker, who was a friend of a boy Mary had dated. (3) A man living six blocks from the Rekers, who was sentenced to life in prison in 1979 for the stabbing death of an 8-year-old Colorado girl. (4) A ''nervous-looking large man waiting outside the store about the time the girls left.'' (5) Two men at a tavern across town in the company of several teenagers. [http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/2823149.html] ... (6) A priest who fondled an acquaintance of the Reker girls in a lakeside cabin (where Mary and Susanne had also been), who is alleged to have held a knife to the girl's throat while molesting her and allegedly telling her she would die if she ever talked about what he was doing to her. [http://www.startribune.com/stories/1697/2823237-2.html] ... For those who missed it, here are the links to the two-part KARE 11 News Extra, including video clips and PDF files of St. Cloud Times and Star Tribune reports on the botched investigation: ... http://www.kare11.com/extras/extras_article.aspx?storyid=97631 ... ... http://www.kare11.com/extras/extras_article.aspx?storyid=97719 ... I am unable to establish a direct link between any of these individuals and the cases of Jared, Jacob, and Josh -- either circumstantially or on the basis of criminal investigative analysis (victimology, profiling, etc.). ...   " However, although there's one particular angle that's not unequivocally dispositive if one assumes a conspiracy, I do not fundamentally believe the Reker case is linked to the others, no matter how you slice it." Okay, thank you. But not linked in any way, shape or form?

5/24/05 Aubs Message #2572
The KARE 11 Extra, for the first time that I'm aware of, also provided public acknowledgment that the Vidocq Society was instrumental in solving the double homicide at the O'Connell funeral home in Hudson, Wisconsin. The alleged murderer, Father Ryan Erickson, hanged himself within a week of being questioned. I've seen interviews with members of his congregation and it's clear their priest was the last person they would have suspected in these brutal killings. True, we shouldn't have tunnel vision, but despite the reporting in the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press articles referenced earlier, we should be extremely cautious about jumping to the conclusion that the person of interest cited in connection with the Reker case had any involvement in the girls' murder.

5/24/05 Anonymous Message #2571
To clarify, I meant that a BCA agent made the statement during the KARE 11 story.

5/24/05 Anonymous Message #2570
A BCA agent just said that investigators should strive to avoid "tunnel vision." Indeed.

5/24/05 Aubs Message #2569
"To the poster who noted, ''it appears that it is Stearns County which has asked this elite crime-solving group to look at the Reker case. Will they do the same for Josh?'' The Vidocq Society ... [http://www.vidocq.org], named for the famed 18th-century detective Eugène François Vidocq, applies forensic skills to investigate ''cold case'' homicides in support of local law enforcement agencies. Such investigations typically are instigated by victims' families (in this case Fred and Rita Reker). However, the Vidocq Society demands the full cooperation of the responsible law enforcement agencies (in this case the Stearns County Sheriff's Department), who are required to share case files, evidence, and information. Will they do the same for Josh? Well, not as long as the lead investigative agency refuses to go beyond naming Josh's case as a missing person case, without acknowledging the possibility of a criminal act, and contending Josh simply stumbled into a low-lying area and sank into some mud while walking on campus. "

5/24/05 Aubs Message #2568
'--'If you examine the content of the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press links posted below at 5/23/2005 4:16:42 PM, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that some may infer a link between the Reker murders and the cases of Jared, Jacob, and Josh. However, although there's one particular angle that's not unequivocally dispositive if one assumes a conspiracy, I do not fundamentally believe the Reker case is linked to the others, no matter how you slice it. The only thing they have in common is a startling measure of investigative incompetence.
