6/21/06 BMW Message #2848
DoubleDash: All cults lead down a blind alley. Remain on post and hold your fire. Right about now, 4904 is getting hung out to dry. When he's smoked out, you'll know. Not long now.

6/19/06 DoubleDash Message #2847
''"In 1978 Thorstad was a founding member of NAMBLA, and has remained active in its leadership ever since. He is one of a group of NAMBLA members who are being sued for the wrongful death of a ten-year-old boy in a long-running court case in Boston (Curley v NAMBLA, described at the NAMBLA article). In 2003, in the course of this case, Judge George O'Toole found that: ... David Thorstad has been a resident of St. Paul, Minnesota since approximately 1992. Thorstad has been a member of NAMBLA since 1978, and served as a member of the Steering Committee from some undetermined time until September 1996. He is listed as a member of the Bulletin Collective, though he claims he ''had no role in producing'' the publication. He did contribute letters and articles to the Bulletin, and one of his articles was also posted on NAMBLA's webpage. In 1995, he was nominated to be an official NAMBLA spokesman.'' Minnesota is no different from any other state --it has its share of deviant groups, including cults. "

6/19/06 DoubleDash Message #2845
"In Minneapolis, St. Paul and Rochester, there are some concentrated areas where sex offenders live together in the same buildling. Of the 50 level three offenders living in Hennepin County as of December 31, 2002, 30 lived in just 3 zip codes. A proximity restriction would mean that 15 to 20 of these offenders would have to relocate or face being sanctioned under the law. Given the current difficulty that a single offender has in finding a placement, it is highly likely that many of these offenders would become transient, which would severely restrict an agent's ability to closely supervise their activities." 6/19/06 DoubleDash Message #2844
My belief from the beginning has been that more than one person knows about what happened to Joshua. Are these people part of an organization? I think so. Are they part of a cult? Anything's possible, but I think they are sexual deviants who stalk young men/boys. Early on, I could see that not much help could be expected from either Stearns Cnty or the FBI. The Vidocq Society would be a far better avenue for help. They will only assist if the family asks them to get involved. I think, however, that the case will be solved by people who are familiar with the type of circumstances under which Joshua disappeared. The truth will out, it is just a matter of time. And those of us who care aren't going anywhere, are we BMW. Happy Birthday Joshua. We won't stop our efforts until the truth is fully uncovered.

6/19/06 Webmaster Message #2843
Yesterday, 6/18/2006, Joshua's age on the home page went from 23 to 24. (I was hoping not to have to change that again.) A quick note to wish Josh a happy birthday, and to let his family know they are in our prayers for a quick resolution to this mess.

6/19/06 bob guimond Message #2842
"Has anyone ever thought that it could be an organization involved here. ... such as a cult , but no it couldn't be because the Fbi Bca and Stearns county said no such thing as cults in minnesota let alone stearns county. ... Told us to our faces that this is true! ... "

5/22/06 DoubleDash Message #2841
Aubs, thank you for a thorough and honest answer. My biggest consolation is to realize there is no perfect crime. That's why, to the person who did this, and you know who you are, don't think for a minute you are off the hook -- not for one second.

5/22/06 Aubs Message #2840
DoubleDash: If investigators were to look in the right places, ''concrete evidence of the crime committed'' will be there – but it will require a more vigorous, proactive prosecution of the criminal. Sadly, it’s unlikely Josh will be found – or any of the others I’ve named in the past.

5/22/06 DoubleDash Message #2839
Aubs, I see. One must truly have each "i" dotted and "t" crossed before proceeding. Is it beyond hope that we could find the concrete evidence of the crime committed -- or would that be akin to searching for a needle in a haystack?

5/22/06 Aubs Message #2838
DoubleDash: On your first point, I’m in complete agreement. On your second point, I place the odds as follows: public identification = 100%; capture = 100%, but contingent on the final element, specified below; conviction = indeterminate. We face a problem of corpus delicti. The key is to find a prosecutor willing to proceed on the basis of presumptive evidence.

5/22/06 DoubleDash Message #2837
Aubs, I agree with you. You and I are on the same page. The drownings of the college aged men are a separate problem to be studied. What happened to Joshua was definitely an abduction by someone who I think is an experienced perpetrator. This person may or may not have been involved with the Wetterling case, though I do believe the possibility is there. My question is, theoretically speaking of course, what are the odds that certain authorities have known of the perpetrator's involvement in Joshua's disappearance and have not pursued it? Second, what odds are you willing to assign that there will be resolution (and justice, bittersweet though it will be) in Joshua's case? I believe there is a 75% chance of public identification, capture and conviction. Are you more confident than I?

5/22/06 Aubs Message #2836
DoubleDash: I'll look into this, but I'm skeptical about any hypothesized connection between Josh and the serial drowning victims, because there is not one shred of evidence that Josh drowned. Circumstantial evidence linking Josh to missing males who did not drown is more compelling.

5/21/06 Nick Message #2835
Oops, I apologize; I provided Prof. Gilbertson's email address. His web page is at http://web.stcloudstate.edu/dlgilbertson/. Note that I had problems with the page in Firefox, but it worked just fine in Explorer.

5/21/06 Nick Message #2834
The Fox 9 story was an interesting one. One of the main focuses was a study conducted by Prof. Lee Gilbertson at St. Cloud State University. Prof. Gilbertson and some of his students have done what appears to be rather substantial analysis of many college students who either are missing or whose bodies have been found in rivers. The conclusions, according to the report, are striking: they say the data supports the idea that a serial killer is responsible for many of the killings/disappearances. I had not heard of Prof. Gilbertson's work in the past, and I hope to get his data if he is willing to share it. His faculty web page is at http://web.stcloudstate.edu/dlgilbertson/

5/21/06 DoubleDash Message #2833
Nick, Aubs, if these programs offer any new insights into Josh's case, would you please share them? Much obliged. I still consider it a possibility that the same individual who abducted Jacob Wetterling also took Joshua.

5/21/06 Aubs Message #2832
"Nick: There's also a feature on KSTP 5 tonight at 10pm, dealing with Chris Jenkins and the LaCrosse student drownings (unrelated to Josh's abduction), featuring profiler Pat Brown. 5/21/06 Nick Message #2831
I just heard an ad on the radio. There will apparently be a story on Fox 9 News tonight at 9 on missing college-aged men in Minnesota and someone's (they didn't say whose) theory of a serial killer.

5/20/06 DoubleDash Message #2830
Thank you, Aubs. I will remain vigilent.

5/20/06 Aubs Message #2829
We remain on post. Something significant is in the works. But it will be a time of our choosing.

5/19/06 DoubleDash Message #2828
Phil, there are several of us watching. And we'll continue to watch until we uncover what happened. But I sure wish someone out there would be brave and step forward. You can always send in information anonymously. Or come on this board and talk to us...please? We're getting near the four year mark now -- that's enough time to pass, don't you think? We'll be waiting ...

5/18/06 phil Message #2827
I just realized that the "PROFESSOR" mentioned here several times in the past has been ON LEAVE the entire 2005-06 school year--has anyone looked into this?? Sounds REAL suspicious!

5/7/06 DoubleDash Message #2826
The behavior of Stearns Cnty sheriff's dept. is strange indeed. What would it hurt for them to close the case after two years and zero progress? This other group may possess the objectivity and resources to get to the truth. Aubs? BMW? Often when I have studied this case the term "collusion" comes to mind...I wonder, how much longer before the truth will out

3/7/06 DoubleDash Message #2823
Listen up, people -- Aubs is right. Wouldn't it be better to speak the truth now? Do it!!!

3/6/06 Aubs Message #2822
''I can only hope that someone with information will find the courage to step forward. It's never too late to do the right thing.'' And that’s the tragic irony, right there, DoubleDash. Unfortunately, I’m aware of a number of individuals who, though not complicit in the initial wrongdoing, have lacked the courage to step forward with helpful information. At this juncture, they have maybe weeks left to reconsider their acts of omission. If they don’t, they’re in for a world of hurt. The choices they have made could turn out to be career-ending choices. At the very least, it will be profoundly humiliating. The hour is at hand. Time is trickling away. (651) 793-7000.

3/5/06 DoubleDash Message #2821
There is just something so strange about this case, Aubs -- I keep studying the circumstances of Josh's disappearance, searching for that "ah ha" moment that brings some kind of clarity to what happened. The stalwart posturing of the authorities involved has been disconcerting...their reluctance to immediately pursue other possibilities of what might have happened to Josh still appalls me. My feelings have nothing to do with finger pointing. I'm calling it the way I see it, from an objective viewpoint. And I don't like what I've seen. Much that should have been done right away was not done, and now we're left trying to backtrack. I can only hope that someone with information will find the courage to step forward. It's never too late to do the right thing.

3/5/06 Aubs Message #2820
No DoubleDash - As usual, you've missed nothing. Another point that's conveniently overlooked by those few that still persist Josh fell into a lake on campus is this: A few years before Josh disappeared, two fishermen without life preservers drowned in Lake Sagatagan, the largest and deepest lake on campus, after their canoe capsized. Both bodies were recovered on the first day of the search. Yet, Josh remains missing after the most extensive underwater search in the history of Stearns County. There comes a time when people must face the facts.

3/5/06 DoubleDash Message #2819
"Experts from the Trident Foundation and the Soil and Water Conservation Service have determined that Josh did not fall into a body of water or walk into a swamp and sunk into the mud." Indeed, Aubs, and thank you for reiterating that information. I cannot believe, in the lengthy history of St. John's, that Joshua would be the only person, out of all the people who have walked those hallowed grounds, to have fallen prey to soft mud on campus. I mean, has this sort of tragedy happened to anyone else during the existence of the school? Have warning signs been erected to alert others to this type of danger? It sounds as though it would be a serious liability issue for the school if such life threatening conditions existed. Where are warning signs arounds the campus, to wit: "danger, unsafe conditions, keep off." Or have I missed something

3/5/06 Aubs Message #2818
"DoubleDash: Your recollection is accurate. There’s no physical or circumstantial evidence that Josh left of his own volition. He was without his car, glasses, contact lenses, or a coat warm enough for the freezing November weather. None of his bank cards have been used and there has been no contact with friends or family in the more than three years since his disappearance. Experts from the Trident Foundation and the Soil and Water Conservation Service have determined that Josh did not fall into a body of water or walk into a swamp and sunk into the mud. An interesting recent development was a report in the October 27, 2005, issue the St. Joseph Newsleader, which quoted the Stearns County Sheriff as saying that the case is still classified as a ''missing person'' investigation and that *anything is possible, including an abduction.* ... http://www.thenewsleaders.com/articles/2005/10/31/st_joseph/news/news1.txt ... "

3/5/06 DoubleDash Message #2817
"Beyond that point, the only way the FBI could get involved would be upon invitation by the lead investigative agency, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department." bingo -- what would it have hurt for the FBI to have been asked to help -- except that it might have injured someone's pride and ego -- or ? Thoughts still run through my mind of a larger scenario framing this case, but I can't go there on this board. A young man vanished -- unexpectedly, and clearly not of his own volition -- the FBI should have been engaged once an on campus search was done. I beileve I read that Josh's car was still there -- all his personal effects -- I think he was taken against his will -- and I think more people than not subscribe to that notion. Naysayers can talk about evidence all they want, but I believe we are dealing with an experienced predator who knows how to cover his tracks. I think someone may well know who he is, too.

3/5/06 Aubs Message #2816
Nick: The FBI was initially involved purely to look for a possible connection among the disappearances of four young people in the same general area within a two-week period between Oct. 30 and Nov. 10, 2002 – Erika Dalquist, 21 (Brainerd); Chris Jenkins, 21 (Minneapolis); Michael Noll, 22 (Eau Claire); and Josh Guimond, 20 (Collegeville, Nov. 9). The FBI found no link. Beyond that point, the only way the FBI could get involved would be upon invitation by the lead investigative agency, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department. I have seen no indication that such a request has ever been made. However, the Minnesota BCA has had varying levels of involvement throughout.

3/4/06 Nick Message #2815
Doubledash: I might be mistaken, but I seem to remember the FBI declining to get involved relatively soon after Josh's disappearance. Aubs or others might know with more certainty.

3/3/06 DoubleDash Message #2814
BMW, much obliged for the links. Informative and revealing on several levels. I think it can be assumed a stalker was lurking on the campus, waiting for its prey. I'm not certain whether Josh was specifically targeted -- or if he just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I've always had the feeling he may have been targeted, though. Either way, the abductor most likely continues to lurk in that area and will undoubtedly strike again -- it's just a question of when. I'm trying to puzzle out where the victims are being taken. A couple of possible locations come to mind. I'd like to believe these potential hiding spots have been thoroughly investigated -- I hope that isn't too much to assume. Participation of the FBI should have been requested at the beginning, I believe. It's not too late for that. And to anyone still feeling timid about coming forward with info -- please, help out -- don't let fear stop you from helping those who can no longer help themselves

3/2/06 DoubleDash Message #2812
"Thank you, Aubs, for the information about Scot Rader. How very sad for this family. There are plenty of rivers where I live, and one does not read of intoxicated college students wandering into them. I find it strange and troubling. The link you provided afforded me the opportunity to read this: ''Radel was found by underwater sonar cameras in about 11 feet of water about 25 feet south of a railroad bridge, police said.'' As you know, the top notch underwater search team known as Trident found absolutely nothing in any of the lakes on the St. John's campus. So much time was wasted pursuing this theory, even after Trident completed its search and advocated for pursuing a new path in search of Joshua. Ever feel like you're only being permitted to know a small piece of a larger puzzle? Luckily there are those of us who don't give up easily -- or should I say -- won't give up ever. BMW, what is your take? ... "

double dash and aubs: thank you all for your enlightening comments. I live here in NYC. I grasp for something practical that I can do for you. Last year, I assisted in some way with a small donation. At times, I remember my father, now deceased, looking anxiously for my sister through the living room window. Both my parents would look through our city streets for my sister. I can sense the despair that must grip your hearts. I am aware of the silent treatment you receive from those who should be more proactive in assiting you; they cannot comprehend that good people go through trials. I will be praying for you all daily that God would guide and assist you in your search.

1/2/06 DoubleDash Message #2803
What I find the most discouraging in Joshua's disappearance is what seems to be a conspiracy of silence on the part of people who most likely have much more information than they're willing to share. So we have to work around those people and search for clues, information, resources and answers on our own. It won't be the first time, nor the last time, a case is solved in this way. I think some folks are counting on us giving up -- hoping we'll get discouraged and just walk away--finally. No -- no way -- it will not happen.

1/2/06 Aubs Message #2802
Frederick: I don’t know your sister’s circumstances, but I can only imagine how distressing it must be to have a family member take off without so much as leaving a forwarding address or phone number and not contacting her loved ones for months at a time. In Josh’s case, we have an even more terrifying situation: A student inexplicably vanishes, without rhyme or reason, while walking alone on campus shortly after midnight and is not heard from for more than three years. It is absolutely certain that Josh did not disappear of his own accord. He was without his car, glasses, or a coat warm enough for the freezing mid-November Minnesota weather. None of his credit cards have been used and there have been no reported sightings or attempts to contact any friends or family members since November 9, 2002.

1/1/06 frederick Message #2801
Please keep me abreast on the latest develepments. I can understand some of the emotional pain you are all going through. I remember what my parents went through when my sister did not leave an address or phone number when she left for Florida; we would not hear from her for months at a time. And than the silent treatment from those who have collective amnesia, it is well understood. On this first Sunday of the year, I sincerly hope you find that divine peace from God during this very trying time.

12/24/05 DoubleDash Message #2800
Everyone please keep the Guimond family in your prayers during this Christmas season, and all through the year. I pray that this is the year we find Joshua, at long last.

12/24/05 DoubleDash Message #2799
Aubs, thank you for your insight; alas, it so discouraging to know you are right in this. I wonder if these investigators would at least be willing to listen to the family, given that any authorities previously involved have given up the case, and allowed it to go cold. It's worth asking at least. We just can't give up, we won't give up. I always knew this case would be solved by people other than the "authorities."

12/23/05 aubs Message #2798
From Nick's link to the Star Tribune article on the Vidocq Society at http://www.startribune.com/stories/462/5789755.html ... "To solve cases, you … need a police department that's willing to go that extra distance, even when the case is cold, and you need a prosecutor who's willing to cooperate to get the job done … and you need the media to pay attention to this case" [said the Vidocq founder]. That's a tall order. Which if any of these three requirements can we meet here? According to Vidocq, "The society considers its client to be the truth." Now that's the kicker right there. Talk about getting a camel through the eye of a needle. Good luck.

12/19/05 DoubleDash Message #2797
"Vidocq Society" -- Nick, an excellent suggestion!! I suppose one of the Guimond family members should approach them, if they would like their help. It sounds like a very promising idea!
