"--", that's a great way of putting the question. I don't know the answer. Someone recently brought up the Wilbanks case. Though obviously the whole thing turned out to be a hoax, the police department investigating still did something exemplary by treating it as a criminal investigation. (I hope the ability to look at cases like that and the Seiler case in hindsight don't hurt the cause of those truly missing, like Josh.) Of course, the Wilbanks case also involved a missing woman. I've thought since shortly after all this began that if we were dealing with a missing woman, it quite probably would have been treated as a likely criminal investigation. My question is whether anyone has knowledge of general law enforcement practice and procedure. Would most agencies treat this is at least a potential crime?
