It puzzles me when a murder cannot be solved. When Chandra Levy went missing, the D.C. police tried to say she ran away because her "boyfriend" broke up with her. No one with a brain bought this story. But it took her parents, and the public, demanding more help to make any progress. Even then, it was very clear that the authorities were dragging their feet. The investigation, if you can call it that, was shoddily done -- in fact, it was pathetic. It begs the question: how come some cases are doggedly pursued while others are allowed to languish
