From the St. Joseph Newsleader, Sept. 3, 2004, by Dennis Dalman, Editor-in-Chief: "If you are white and female and good-looking, you will get a lot of press coverage if you are suddenly missing or killed. ... A year or so ago, there was the news report of a chubby little girl kidnapped. ... She was a poor girl, not particularly pretty, and ... the TV media dropped her like a dead weight. It’s the same with Josh Guimond, a St. John’s University student who disappeared nearly two years ago from his campus near St. Joseph. Other than his family’s and friends’ concerns, the general attitude seems to be, 'Gee, what a shame...' And people who really don’t seem to care are still saying, 'His body will eventually surface on a campus lake.' No wonder Guimond’s father is angry! The sad fact is, this country’s distorted values determine how 'serious' your death is. ... Again, let me repeat, every murder is horrible and should be investigated to the utmost, no matter how long it takes to solve."
