Regarding the seeming lack of zeal, I should note in fairness that the Stearns County Sheriff’s Department put a great deal of effort into the initial water search – second only to the search for Jacob Wetterling. The sheriff’s dive team has never failed to recover a drowning victim. That perfect record is still intact, because Josh is not in any of the lakes on campus. It’s time to look elsewhere. On May 21, 2003, the Maple Lake Messenger quoted Scott Romme, executive director of the Trident Foundation (the premier underwater search team in the United States) as saying, ''The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office has spent an exhaustive amount of time and resources in and around these bodies of water. Those efforts, coupled with our technologies and efforts should provide a very high degree of reassurance to the family and the community that Josh is most probably somewhere else.'' ... ''Based on the reports from the field, I would recommend that the search for Josh head in another direction.''
